Everything is awesome.
Only a few more days until San Diego Comic-Con (so gear up for some huge announcements in regards to biggest films), but we’re already seeing some leaks out of there as Disney/LucasFilm just couldn’t keep this bombshell under wraps. According to The Hollywood Reporter, not only do we have a young Han Solo film on the way, but it’s going to be helmed by superstar directing duo Phil Lord And Chris Miller (21 Jump Street, The Lego Movie).
Though I think Guardians Of The Galaxy already explored this territory, and I wasn’t looking forward to the idea of more Star Wars prequels (there’s a huge galaxy out there! let’s explore!), Lord and Miller are practically gods when it comes to turning something that has little-to-no value creatively into greatness. So I feel like I owe this film the benefit of the doubt right off the bat. It’ll also be wicked to see what these guys can do with a huge budget… and space. With the exception of their animated worlds, Lord And Miller have thus far worked mostly in the small-scale, and I like the Jump Street films a lot but even they were more clever than impressive in terms of visual filmmaking. But that being said, The Lego Movie was unreal – there was vibrance and inventiveness to their work there that we haven’t seen in much else, and I’d love to see them be able to realize those kinds of visions in live-action. Bring it on Young Han or Solo, or whatever the title of this film will eventually be.
What do you guys make of this?
