JEAN RENO (Léon the professional) will star in upcoming hitman thriller THE LAST STEP, a France-Canada-UK co-production to be shot in Saskatchewan, Canada in the fall of 2016.
Production companies are SEVEN 52 (France) and EIGHT 35 (France) along with RAVEN BANNER ENTERTAINMENT’S new production arm, BERSERKER (Canada) and MOVIEHO– USE ENTERTAINMENT (UK). Moviehouse will handle international sales.
The Last Step will be directed by FREDERIC PETITJEAN (writer, Turning Tide) and produced by LAURENT TOLLERON (Frontier(s)) of Seven 52 and CORINNE BENICHOU and FLORENCE MOOS of Eight 35. MARK MONTAGUE, ANDREW HUNT, JAMES FLER and MICHAEL PASZT will produce for Berserker in Canada and MARK VENNIS and GARY PHILLIPS for Moviehouse in the UK.
Set in the wilds of northern Canada, Reno plays the worlds’ most wanted and anonymous hitman, now retired and hiding away in a remote cabin whose solitude is violently interrupted by the arrival of a young woman, injured in a near death accident. Having spent his working life as a killer, he faces an impossible decision… whether or not he should save her life.
Alongside Reno is SARAH LIND (The Assassination of Jesse James by The Coward Robert Ford, WolfCop) who will co-star as the injured woman.
Producer Tolleron said I’m thrilled Jean Reno and Sarah Lind have agreed to star in ‘The Last Step’. For me, it has elements of several of my favourite films including ‘Misery’, ‘Hanna’ and of course, ‘Léon the professional’. Frederic (Petitjean), as director, will realise an incredibly tense and thrilling movie from his original screenplay. Our aim and my belief is audiences will literally be on the edge of their seats when they see it.’
Moviehouse Entertainment’s co-managing director Mark Vennis said ‘we’re really excited to have boarded ‘The Last Step’ with Laurent, Corinne, Florence and Frederic as both UK co-producer and sales company and think it’s exactly the kind of quality commercial picture the international market is looking for’.
