Captain Kirk would make a damn fine boytoy in distress.
With Warner Bros. having secured a new director for Wonder Woman (Patty Jenkins has taken Michelle MacLaren’s spot for now), now’s the time for the rumor mill to get truly underway as the film gets closer to its production. We’ve already got our Wonder Woman in the form of Gal Gadot, a choice I’m still not sure on, but now Variety reports that we may have our Steve Trevor (aka Diana’s boytoy in distress) in Star Trek‘s Captain Kirk, Chris Pine.
It’s interesting to me that Pine would be down for small role like this instead of waiting out for his own superhero franchise – he is a star in my books, just don’t think he’s been given all the right opportunities but I kinda like this. There are too few male movie stars willing to bend their overtly masculine image and be the damsel/fool/dick – Tom Cruise is probably the biggest A-list actor who consistently subverts his macho charisma, he did so just last year with Edge Of Tomorrow -so it’d be great to see more of that from someone like Pine.
Other than that it becomes a question of who Steve Trevor is going to be to Wonder Woman other than her boyfriend. Depends a lot on if they’re going for the Captain America: First Avenger-esque period piece the rumormill would have us believe or a modern take – we got see her in Batman V. Superman, right? So would her first solo film be a prequel? Or a modern narrative with flashbacks? I guess we’ll find out.
What do you guys make of this?
