Look how chubby and adorable Batman is!!!
Thanks to Entertainment Weekly, Comic-Con is getting started a little early this year with a full Batman V. Superman cover and a bunch of new images – and some amazing commentary on the images from Ben Affleck. Take a look:
This image isn’t anything new, really. We’ve seen a lot of this brooding, head-to-head match-up (showing off the Dark Knight Returns inspired Batman outfit) so far in Batman V. Superman marketing but Affleck looks great, I guess!
This reminds me a lot of Nolan’s Catwoman and Bruce at fundraiser, but I dig it for a lot of the same reason Affleck does – the fact “that there was this Thomas Crowne Affair, Bond-y sexy scene that they wrote about two people who are pretending to be two different people who each know the secrets of the other person.” He’s right on the money. One of the more interesting things about having a billion superhero films coming out is how each on is going to differentiate itself and I really dig the idea of having some sexy, high-class fun with Bruce AND Wonder Woman while addressing the identity crisis that most of these heroes have.
This is another image we’ve seen quite a bit of (it was flaunted in the teaser trailer as well), more Christ/God imagery, just in case you didn’t get it!!!!!! Granted, this stuff might work better in context so I’ll wait for the film before dismissing it TOO much. I also like what Cavill had to say about it: “I like to think that Man of Steel was the perspective of the world from Clark, Kal-El, looking at the world and trying to exist with in it. Batman v Superman is definitely more mankind’s perspective of Superman.” Hopefully the film actually channels this idea and doesn’t totally drop all of its ideas for 45-minutes of punching.
There’s really nothing to say about this because Ben Affleck already nailed it: “The long dark night of the soul and whatnot.”
Looks at them luscious locks! We haven’t seen a lot of Eisenberg as Lex Luthor yet (his casting is one of the more intriguing things about the film to me, personally) but this seems fine. We know at one point he’s going to lose that hair so I’m excited to see how! Hopefully after Batman and Superman become friends they shave his head with some clippers while he cries or something.
And last but not least we’ve got the cover! I’ve never been a fan of EW covers (so much photoshop!!), but I actually like this? Wonder Woman looks GREAT, and there’s more color here than in any of the marketing so far combined. So that’s nice. The costumes all look awesome – though Batman looks hilariously chubby and adorable, which I absolutely love, but I’m not sure that’s what Warnes Bros. and Snyder are going for… Still, consider me pleased.
What do you guys make of all these?
