Universal Pictures has released a new television spot for the Jordan Peele-produced sports horror film Him, which will arrive in cinemas on September 19th. Starring Tyriq Withers as Cameron Cade, the story follows a young American football athlete whose career and life take a dark turn after a fateful encounter with Marlon Wayans’ celebrated quarterback, Isaiah White.
A Star-Studded Cast and Creative Team Drive Him’s Tense Narrative
Directed by Justin Tipping, known for Kicks, and co-written by Tipping alongside Skip Bronkie and Zack Akers, the film assembles a diverse cast. Withers, noted for his roles in Atlanta and the upcoming I Know What You Did Last Summer, joins an ensemble featuring Julia Fox, recognized for her performance in Uncut Gems; comedian Tim Heidecker; Australian comic Jim Jefferies; former sprinter Maurice Greene; rapper Guapdad 4000; and singer Tierra Whack. Their combined talents contribute to the film’s complex and atmospheric world.
Plot Centers on Ambition, Sacrifice, and the Supernatural
Cameron Cade, a once-promising football star, dedicates his entire identity to the sport, but his trajectory changes abruptly when he is violently attacked by an unstable fan on the eve of football’s annual scouting Combine. The attack results in a severe brain injury that threatens to end his career prematurely.
As hope seems lost, salvation comes through Isaiah White, portrayed by Marlon Wayans, an eight-time Championship-winning quarterback and massive cultural figure. Isaiah invites Cam to undergo rigorous training at his remote compound, which he shares with his influencer wife, Elsie White—played by Julia Fox. However, as Cam’s training intensifies, Isaiah’s initial charm begins to reveal sinister undertones, setting Cam on a bewildering and perilous path that could require an unthinkable price.
Him Blends Sports and Horror to Offer a Unique Cinematic Experience
By combining the adrenaline of American football with psychological horror elements, Him positions itself as a unique entry in the genre. The involvement of Jordan Peele as producer raises expectations, given his history of genre-defining projects. Set to premiere just as football season heats up, the film promises to explore the cost of ambition and the dark corners of sports celebrity, making it a noteworthy event this fall for fans of both sports and suspenseful storytelling.
