Tom Felton returns as Draco Malfoy on Broadway—Jason Isaacs cheers, new Lucius actor gets his blessing

Excitement is building as Tom Felton returns as Draco Malfoy on Broadway this November, bringing renewed attention to the beloved Harry Potter universe. Broadway fans and Potterheads alike look forward to his performance in Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, while Jason Isaacs, who famously portrayed Lucius Malfoy, offered public praise and encouragement to Felton and the new Lucius actor, Johnny Flynn.

Tom Felton Steps Back Into Draco’s Shoes on Broadway

Felton, who first brought Draco Malfoy to life in the movie franchise, is set to play the role again in the Broadway production for a special 19-week engagement starting November 11. This marks his first time portraying Draco live on stage. Speaking at the Tony Awards, Felton described the unique thrill of the experience:

“The most exciting part is to do it live. It took nine months, more or less, to shoot a film, and this is all compact. This is all reimagined into a very loving, new type of story. And I get to be a dad, which is really fun.”

Fans welcomed the news, especially as Felton’s on-stage return allows them to see a different, more matured Draco in a story that reimagines the wizarding world they love.

Jason Isaacs Applauds Felton’s Return and Welcomes New Cast Members

Jason Isaacs, who played Lucius Malfoy beginning with Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, celebrated Felton’s casting in Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. He showed his excitement by sharing heartfelt messages on social media:

“Can’t wait, son. That’ll be me in the front row with something in my eye,”

—Jason Isaacs, Actor

Isaacs further confirmed his support after the official announcement, posting: Tickets booked for November.

Jason Isaacs has also endorsed the fresh casting for the HBO series adaptation. Lox Pratt will play Draco and Johnny Flynn is set to portray Lucius Malfoy. Isaacs did not hesitate to express his approval for Flynn, whom he previously worked with on the historical film Operation Mincemeat.

“A fantastic actor, a lovely man and, irritatingly, a rather brilliant musician too,”

—Jason Isaacs, Actor

“Couldn’t have handed the snake-topped baton on to anyone better. Just please don’t make him sing…”

—Jason Isaacs, Actor

Isaacs extended further advice and encouragement to Flynn in an Instagram video:

“It’s sensational news for ‘Harry Potter’ fans, of which I am. Johnny is a brilliant actor. We did a film called ‘Operation Mincemeat’ together and I adored him, as you will too when you see him in the show. I can’t wait to see what he comes up with. Johnny, if you ever watch this, enjoy yourself and top tip: Watch out for those elves, those pointy-eared backstabbing little bastards! Have fun. I’ll see you in Hogwarts.”

New Faces and Fresh Energy for the Wizarding World

While Felton’s Broadway run offers longtime fans a chance to revisit Draco Malfoy, the HBO series adaptation will introduce new talent to the roles of Draco and Lucius Malfoy, with Lox Pratt and Johnny Flynn stepping in. This pairing of old and new actors is creating a sense of unity and excitement within the Harry Potter community.

With principal figures like Jason Isaacs supporting both the stage and screen iterations, the energy surrounding the upcoming Broadway production and television series is especially lively. As November approaches, both theatergoers and TV audiences anticipate what’s next for their favorite Slytherins and how new actors will shape the ongoing legacy of J.K. Rowling’s enchanted world.
