James Gunn Shuts Down Batman DCU Rumors, Confirms No Casting Yet and Updates on Waller TV Show

James Gunn addresses Batman DCU rumors and updates, confirming there is no current casting for the highly anticipated Batman film in the new DC Universe, while also providing a status report on the Waller TV show. The co-CEO of DC Studios took to social media to clarify speculation that has circulated since The Brave and the Bold Batman project was revealed over two years ago.

Gunn Responds to Unverified Casting Claims and Movie Updates

James Gunn recently addressed the ongoing rumors through his personal Thread account, which has become a forum for fans seeking insight into upcoming DC Studios productions. Gunn revealed that, contrary to widespread online speculation, the casting process for Batman in The Brave and the Bold has not yet started. This Batman installment is set to be directed by Andy Muschietti—known for his work on The Flash—and will draw inspiration from Grant Morrison and Andy Kubert’s acclaimed comic run. The story will feature Bruce Wayne and Damian Wayne, the latter being the son of the Dark Knight and Talia al Ghul, and one of the notable figures to assume the Robin identity.

Regarding widespread rumors that surfaced online about other DC properties, Gunn firmly dismissed claims of a pending Teen Titans casting search scheduled for this fall. He also clarified misinformation relating to The Batman Part II, which some claimed had its script due for submission by Matt Reeves on Memorial Day, stating that this was not the intended timeline for the script’s completion.

Status of the Waller TV Series

While addressing rumors, Gunn also shared that development continues for the Waller TV series, which is set to feature the return of Viola Davis in her role as Amanda Waller, the formidable government agent. He reiterated that the project remains active and under development more than two years after its initial announcement, easing concerns about its fate amid shifts within DC Studios leadership and project scheduling.

What to Expect Moving Forward

The Brave and the Bold remains a focal point for DC Studios as part of its Chapter One: Gods & Monsters, but as of now, there is no official release date on the horizon. With Gunn’s recent comments, fans can expect a pause on casting rumors while the creative process unfolds. Similarly, the Waller TV show promises further expansion of the DC Universe on screen, and Oscar-winner Viola Davis’s involvement hints at a continuation of her commanding screen presence in the franchise.
