Production Struggles Complicate the Future

Originally, Blade’s reboot was slated for release in November 2025. However, the film was pulled from Disney’s planned schedule in late 2023 and replaced by Predator: Badlands. Marvel Studios has since listed three untitled films for various dates in 2028, but Blade remains off the official calendar.

Development has been rocky, with the project losing several key writers and directors. Both Bassam Tariq and Yann Demange exited due to creative differences, causing further delays. Executive producer Kevin Feige acknowledged these issues, sharing with BlackTree TV,

“For the last two years as we’ve been trying to crack that movie, the most important thing for us is not rushing it and making sure we are making the right Blade movie.”

—Kevin Feige, Marvel Studios President.

Feige also stressed the importance of maintaining the mature tone and R-rating central to the Blade character, referencing the success of previous R-rated Marvel titles. He explained,

“There were some great Blade movies years ago – they were all rated-R. So I think that’s, like Deadpool, inherent with the character of Blade.”

—Kevin Feige, Marvel Studios President.

Current Status and What Lies Ahead for Blade

The Blade reboot currently has no director attached, but script duties are being handled by Eric Pearson, known for Thor: Ragnarok, and Nic Pizzolatto, creator of True Detective. Despite numerous delays and the loss of key creative talents, Marvel Studios maintains its commitment to the project and Ali’s involvement as the new Blade. The continued uncertainty leaves fans and the cast waiting for a clear signal from Marvel before production can move forward. As Ali remains publicly enthusiastic about taking on this iconic role, future updates from Marvel Studios are highly anticipated.
