Hollywood Composer Bear McCreary Transforms Infamous Talos Movie with New Score, Making It Surprisingly Good

The 2010 direct-to-DVD fantasy movie Talos has long been criticized as one of the worst films in its genre. Recently, Hollywood composer Bear McCreary, known for his work on Battlestar Galactica and Godzilla: King of the Monsters, took on the challenge of rescuing this infamous title. Teaming up with the editors from Red Letter Media, McCreary added an original score and improved sound mixing, drastically enhancing the movie’s quality and making it unexpectedly watchable.

How the Project Came to Life

The collaboration began during an episode of Red Letter Media’s YouTube series Best of the Worst, where hosts Mike, Rich, and their team review bad movies. McCreary appeared as a guest, and Talos was one of the films under scrutiny. While analyzing its many flaws, McCreary noticed that much of Talos’ failure came from poor editing and sound. Motivated by the film’s hidden potential, he and the RLM editing team set out to rework select scenes and overlay his new score.

Early Success Points Toward Further Restoration

So far, only two scenes have been redone, but the results have been promising. McCreary’s musical input and the improved editing already transformed these segments from notoriously bad to genuinely engaging. Fans and viewers who hope for a full restoration of Talos are encouraged to express their interest to McCreary and Red Letter Media, potentially paving the way for more extensive revisions.
