Amazon Original Movies Production Head Glenn Gainor Leaves to Launch Innovative Hollywood Ventures Group

Glenn Gainor, the head of physical production at Amazon Original Movies, is stepping down to start Hollywood Ventures Group, a new production and consulting company. This initiative, launched alongside Entertainment Media Ventures leader and CAA veteran Sandy Climan, aims to innovate film and television production globally.

Hollywood Ventures Group’s Mission and Headquarters

According to the company’s website, Hollywood Ventures Group seeks to transform the media landscape by introducing a “Hollywood in a Box” model that serves partners in emerging and developing markets worldwide. The firm plans to connect premier talent, strategic investors, and advanced technology to support creators and businesses across film, television, and digital platforms.

The company will be based at the renowned Television City studio complex on Beverly Boulevard, situated in Los Angeles’ Fairfax District. Its clientele will include international film studios as well as foreign governmental organizations.

Leadership Team and Industry Background

Besides Gainor and Climan, the founding team includes Entertainment Media Ventures’ senior vice president Nelly Kim, vice president of strategy Gabriel Jenkins, and Gainor’s executive assistant Tejkiran Kaur. Gainor will serve as CEO of Hollywood Ventures Group.

During his time at Amazon MGM, Gainor oversaw physical production on notable projects such as Eddie Murphy’s comedy Candy Cane Lane, the Dwayne Johnson-led action comedy Red One, Aaron Sorkin’s Being the Ricardos, and George Clooney’s The Tender Bar. He also contributed to Amazon Studios’ Innovation Lab, guiding industry foresight initiatives.

Extensive Experience at Sony and Previous Productions

Prior to Amazon, Gainor spent fourteen years leading physical production at Sony Motion Picture Group’s Screen Gems division, where he was involved in films including The Perfect Guy, No Good Deed, Think Like a Man, Friends with Benefits, and Obsessed. He also took on executive producer and unit production manager roles on projects like 2015’s The Wedding Ringer.

Gainor headed Sony’s Innovation Studios, a cutting-edge facility at Sony Pictures Studios that offered filmmakers volumetric capture and customizable set scanning technology. This allowed digital repurposing of film sets, exemplified by the headquarters featured in MIB: International. Additionally, he managed Sony Pictures’ acquisition of Nurulize, a startup that enables collaborative real-time editing of volumetrically captured images, and supervised the pioneering use of Sony Alpha 7SII cameras in Screen Gems productions.

Earlier Career and Notable Past Collaborations

Before joining Screen Gems, Gainor produced comedies for Adam Sandler’s Happy Madison banner, including Strange Wilderness, Grandma’s Boy, and Deuce Bigalow: European Gigolo. His other credits feature executive producing Nicolas Cage’s directorial debut Sonny, line producing Henry Bromell’s Panic, and co-producing both Happy Texas and George Hickenlooper’s The Man from Elysian Fields.

Significance of Gainor’s Departure and Future Outlook

Glenn Gainor’s move from Amazon Original Movies production leadership to founding Hollywood Ventures Group marks a significant pivot toward innovation in global content creation and delivery. By combining experienced leadership with new business models and technology, the company aims to influence how studios and creators collaborate internationally. With its strategic location at Television City and a team blending production expertise and business savvy, Hollywood Ventures Group is positioned to impact the evolving entertainment industry landscape substantially.
