Jason Momoa Shaves Beard for First Time in 6 Years to Return as Duncan Idaho in Dune Part Three

Jason Momoa is officially returning to the role of Duncan Idaho for Dune: Part Three, marking a significant moment in the franchise’s continuation. To get ready for the role, Momoa shared a personal video of himself shaving his beard for the first time in six years, a change made specifically for director Denis Villeneuve’s upcoming film.

In the footage released to fans and Variety, Momoa expressed mixed emotions as he resumed shaving. He addressed Villeneuve directly, saying, “Only for you, Denis,” before showing frustration and commenting, “Goddamnit! I hate it.” This marked the first time he shaved since filming the original Dune in 2019, emphasizing the personal sacrifice involved in transforming back into his iconic character.

Reviving Duncan Idaho’s Story in the Latest Dune Chapter

Momoa originally played the beloved swordmaster Duncan Idaho in the 2021 adaptation of Frank Herbert’s novel. Although the character faced a dramatic fate in the first film, the books reveal that Duncan’s journey continues through his resurrection as a clone. This suggests that Dune: Part Three will explore new facets of Idaho’s story, much to the anticipation of fans.

The film will reunite core cast members like Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, and Florence Pugh, while introducing fresh faces to the saga. Notably, Momoa’s own son, Nakoa-Wolf Momoa, joins the cast alongside actress Ida Brooke. They will portray Leto II and Ghanima, the children of Paul Atreides and Chani, expanding the narrative to the next generation.

Nakoa-Wolf Momoa Embarks on Acting Career in Dune alongside His Father

During a recent interview with Extra, Jason Momoa reflected on his son Nakoa-Wolf’s entry into the entertainment industry and the challenges he is facing. He remarked,

“A rude awakening is what he’s in for. He’s into the workforce for the first time. It’s going to be good. He did it on his own. I don’t want to help him, and he’s done it all on his own, and good for him.”

Jason Momoa also expressed pride in his son’s maturity and professionalism, stating,

“You want your children to be better than you, and I really, actually believe he is. I couldn’t do what he’s doing at his age. There’s no way I could sit in a room with Denis Villeneuve and hold my own. I was on ‘Baywatch’ at 19. He’s 16 and holding it down with Denis Villeneuve.”

What to Expect Next from Dune: Part Three

Set for release in December 2026, Dune: Part Three promises to deepen the saga brought to life by Warner Bros. and Legendary Entertainment. With Jason Momoa’s transformation and his son joining the cast, the upcoming film is poised to explore new dimensions of Frank Herbert’s epic universe, continuing the story of the Atreides family and their complex legacy.
