James Gunn Confirms No Batman Casting Yet, Debunks Hush Rumors Ahead of DCU’s The Batman 2

James Gunn, co-CEO of DC Studios and director of Superman, recently provided updates about DC Universe (DCU) projects on Threads, including the status of Batman casting. Although The Brave and the Bold and the Batman sequel remain priorities for DC Studios following Superman’s release, Gunn confirmed that neither he nor producer Peter Safran has cast the next Batman yet. This news suggests that the character is unlikely to appear in next year’s Clayface movie, despite its setting within the DCU.

Clarification on Hush’s Role in The Batman Part II

Gunn also addressed circulating rumors about Thomas Elliot, also known as Hush, being the main antagonist in Matt Reeves’ The Batman Part II. While he did not outright dismiss Hush’s involvement, Gunn cautioned fans against believing everything they read online. The production for the sequel is expected to start early next year, so more details, including casting announcements, should emerge soon.

Teen Titans and Robin Character Developments

The script for The Brave and the Bold is actively being developed, though Gunn noted there are no new public updates yet. Ana Nogueira, initially assigned to write a Teen Titans film, has shifted focus to the Wonder Woman reboot, another top priority for DC Studios. Within the Teen Titans story, questions around which Robin—Dick Grayson, Tim Drake, or Damian Wayne—will lead the team have sparked much speculation. Contrary to online reports about DC Studios bouncing between Tim and Damian, Gunn stated no such changes have occurred.

“I mean, we’re working on a script. We have a screenwriter who’s hammering away at it. I’m very involved, and so, you know, we’ll see what happens next. I wish I had more news for you, but I don’t.”

Prospects for Robert Pattinson’s Batman Joining the DCU

When asked about Robert Pattinson reprising his role as Batman within the DCU, Gunn acknowledged it remains a possibility, but a remote one. He emphasized that discussions have taken place but added that it is unlikely the actor would take on the long-term commitment such a franchise requires.

“It would be a consideration. We’d have to think about it. We’d have to think about it. It is not like we’ve never discussed it. I would never say zero [chance], because you just never know. But it’s not likely. It’s not likely at all.”

Fans remain hopeful to see a crossover between Pattinson’s Batman and David Corenswet’s Man of Tomorrow, but Gunn’s comments suggest these hopes may not materialize soon. The Batman Part II is currently scheduled for release on October 1, 2027.
