Armie Hammer Reveals How Getting Johnny Depp Super Stoned Banned Them from Hanging Out Together

Actors Armie Hammer and Johnny Depp once crossed paths while promoting their film The Lone Ranger. During a July 28 episode of Hammer’s podcast Armie Hammertime, the actor shared a story about how his heavy marijuana use inadvertently caused tension with Depp, resulting in their separation during press events.

Details of the Incident: Excessive Marijuana Use Leads to Fallout

Hammer, known for his role alongside Timothée Chalamet in Call Me By Your Name, admitted to smoking vast quantities of marijuana in his younger years. His cohost Ashton Ramsey recalled,

“You smoked more marijuana than anyone on earth,”

to which Hammer responded,

“I think at that point in my life I was smoking upwards of 15 to 20 joints a day.”

Ramsey then mentioned the key moment involving Johnny Depp, saying,

“The most trouble you ever got into was when you basically got Johnny super stoned before a day on a press junket.”

Hammer confirmed this, explaining,

“And they never let me hang out with Johnny on the press tour after that! They would always keep us apart. They never let us do press together. They were like, ‘You two cannot hangout anymore.’ I forgot about that.”

The Impact of the Incident on Their Relationship

Following this marijuana incident, Hammer was effectively banned from socializing with Depp during the promotional tour. This decision by their teams disrupted any further collaborations or appearances together on the press circuit, illustrating how a single event during a high-profile film promotion can affect professional relationships.

Hammer’s recollection highlights the challenges actors may face behind the scenes while managing both their personal habits and public image, especially when it influences their ability to work alongside fellow stars like Depp.
