Comedian Pete Davidson, known for his more than 200 tattoos, has provided a new update on his ongoing tattoo removal process. The 31-year-old revealed that while he plans to remove most of his body art, he will retain the tattoo of Hillary Clinton on his right leg, highlighting the significance behind this particular ink.
Why Pete Davidson Is Erasing Most of His Tattoos
In a recent interview on The Breakfast Club Power 105.1, Davidson reflected on the tattoos he acquired during his early 20s. He admitted that many of the designs were impulsive decisions made in a short timeframe and no longer resonate with him.
“My tattoos sucked. They were all drug-fueled,”
he said, attributing the rapid accumulation to a difficult period in his life before achieving sobriety. The time spent in rehab allowed him to reconsider his appearance, leading to his decision to remove the majority of his tattoos.
He elaborated,
“I just looked at myself in rehab for the first time when I was sober and was just like, ‘Oh no. What did I do’?”
Despite this, Davidson acknowledged that tattoos can be meaningful when they hold importance to the individual, although most of his own tattoos lack such significance.
The Story Behind the Hillary Clinton Tattoo
One notable tattoo Davidson is keeping is the portrait of Hillary Clinton, inked in December 2017 after her 2016 presidential election loss. He expressed his admiration for her, saying,
“Hillary’s staying, I love Hillary. I got Hillary after she lost.”
The SNL alum also revealed a personal connection, stating,
“One, I know her personally and she’s a lovely lady,”
and praised Clinton’s resilience in facing challenges, adding,
“But also…she’s tough, man. She was really at the forefront of some bulls–t and as someone who’s been at the forefront of some bulls–t, I just wanted to, like, cheer her up a little bit.”
Davidson also shared that Clinton reacted positively to the tattoo removal announcement.
“What was cute was when I got them removed, she hit me up and was like, ‘You’re not removing me are you’?”
he recalled, confirming he assured her, “Of course not!” This reaffirmed his commitment to keeping the Clinton tattoo as a meaningful exception among his collection.
What Lies Ahead for Davidson’s Tattoo Removal Process
Pete Davidson has previously outlined that his tattoo removal will be a lengthy endeavor, but he confirmed he plans to retain only a small number of tattoos, including the Clinton piece. This update underscores his shift toward sobriety and self-reflection, with the removal symbolizing a fresh start while preserving the tattoos that hold genuine value in his life.
