James Gunn has revealed new details about the upcoming Superman sequel, confirming that filming will begin earlier than fans had anticipated. During a recent interview with Collider, Gunn shared that he has finished the extensive treatment for the project and that production scheduling is currently underway.
“We’re scheduling it now,” Gunn said.
“I’m totally done with the treatment. My treatments are incredibly intense. They’re not regular treatments. They’re 60-page treatments with dialogue and everything. And so, now I’m just turning that into a script. We’re planning out when we’re going to shoot that. It’s going to be much sooner rather than later.”
Insights Into the New Superman Film and Its Lead Actor
Throughout various interviews on his Superman press tour, James Gunn has mentioned that he is writing a new film featuring David Corenswet as the Man of Steel. Gunn has kept details ambiguous about whether this project is a direct sequel or a distinct standalone movie within the same universe. However, the quick move toward production suggests progress is well underway.
Other Projects Expanding the DC Universe
Besides the Superman sequel, the DC slate includes several other anticipated projects such as Peacemaker Season 2, Supergirl, the Lanterns television series, Wonder Woman, and Clayface. Gunn recently spoke with CBS Mornings about how each of these projects will maintain its own distinct style and tone, reflecting the diversity found in the original comics.
“‘Clayface’ is a totally different thing. Although it’s in the same universe, it’s a complete horror film, and that’s one of the things we want to do,”
Gunn explained.
“There’s not a company style. It’s not like every movie is gonna be like ‘Superman.’ The artists and the directors and the writers that create each one will bring their own sense to it. … We don’t want people being bored.”
Significance of the Update and What Lies Ahead
James Gunn’s update signals a swift advancement in the Superman sequel’s development, reassuring fans eager for more from the Man of Steel. With production plans moving forward sooner than expected, the film could soon join the expanding roster of innovative DC projects. Gunn’s approach to allowing each title to have its unique voice suggests the franchise will continue to offer fresh and varied storytelling that appeals to a broad audience. Observers will closely watch how this sequel fits within the larger DC cinematic universe as filming begins and additional details emerge.
