Bob Odenkirk, who has portrayed Jimmy McGill/Saul Goodman for more than a decade on Breaking Bad and its spinoff Better Call Saul, expressed openness to revisiting the character. The 62-year-old actor revealed in a recent interview that a revival would depend on two key factors: the creative team’s involvement and the story remaining set within the prison environment.
Revival Must Stay Focused on Prison Setting and Original Creators’ Involvement
Odenkirk emphasized that any continuation would have to take place while Saul remains incarcerated.
“He’s not getting out (of prison). If there’s another Saul show, it takes place inside prison,”
he said. Additionally, he stressed the importance of having the original creators on board, praising Vince Gilligan and Peter Gould for their work.
“Vince Gilligan and Peter Gould created that show. They are some of the best writers who ever worked in TV,”
Bob said.
“So if they were to think of something in that world, of course I would do it.”
Uncertainty Surrounds Potential Revival as Creators Pursue New Projects
Despite his willingness, Bob tempered expectations by noting that a revival may not be forthcoming. “But I don’t think so,” he said, adding,
“I think they’ve all moved on to some more amazing projects that you’ll soon see.”
This reflects the creators’ current focus on fresh ventures beyond the Better Call Saul universe.
Long-Lasting Impact of the Role on Bob Odenkirk
Odenkirk also reflected on how playing Saul Goodman has profoundly influenced his career and life.
“That part turned my life around, and I’ve given more to that part than anything I’ve done,”
he remarked, underscoring the deep connection he feels to the character and story.
Consideration of a revival continues in the minds of fans and cast alike, with co-star Rhea Seehorn previously commenting on the possibility of future projects related to Better Call Saul. For now, Bob Odenkirk’s conditions make clear that any return will hinge on creative integrity and the unique setting that defined the show’s final season.
