Emma Stone Recalls Mom’s Awkward Question to Angelina Jolie at 2011 Golden Globes

Emma Stone recently recounted a humorous incident from the 2011 Golden Globe Awards involving her mother and Angelina Jolie, highlighting an unexpectedly awkward moment. Stone shared how her mother, Krista Stone, unintentionally asked Jolie a question that caught everyone off guard during the event.

The Awkward Interaction with Angelina Jolie

In a conversation with Vogue for their Life in Looks series, Emma Stone reflected on a couple of unforgettable highlights from that evening: her noticeable spray tan and the exchange between her mother and Angelina Jolie. Stone said,

“That was a really, really fun night because I brought my mom, and we sat next to Angelina Jolie, and she asked Angelina Jolie if she had any kids,”

illustrating the awkwardness of the situation. At the time, Angelina Jolie was well known as a celebrity mother of six children with then-husband Brad Pitt, including Maddox, Pax, Zahara, Shiloh, and twins Knox and Vivienne.

Shared Nominations and Career Reflections

The 2011 Golden Globes also saw Stone and Jolie both nominated for Best Actress in a Musical or Comedy. Emma Stone was recognized for her role in Easy A, while Angelina Jolie received a nod for The Tourist. Although neither actress won the award that night, the experience left Stone with a memorable story to share years later.

Beyond this anecdote, Stone spoke about her role in the Amazing Spider-Man films, describing that period as really a special time and praising her co-star Andrew Garfield and director Marc Webb for their work on the franchise.

Upcoming Projects and Continued Collaborations

Looking ahead, Emma Stone is set to reunite with director Yórgos Lánthimos in the thriller Bugonia, scheduled for release on October 24, 2025. In this film, Stone plays a CEO who is kidnapped by conspiracy theorists. This marks her fifth project with Lánthimos, following their collaborations on Poor Things, Kinds of Kindness, The Favourite, and the short film Bleat.
