Robert Pattinson’s Batman Could Cross Paths with DCU’s Superman, Says Key Creative on Possible Crossover

The chance of Robert Pattinson’s Batman encountering David Corenswet’s Superman within the DC Universe (DCU) has been raised by a key member of the creative team behind the 2025 Superman film. With Corenswet’s Man of Steel just beginning his journey in the DCU following the movie’s ending, DC Studios is actively developing the return of Superman, sparking speculation about potential interactions with other iconic heroes including Batman, specifically Pattinson’s interpretation.

Following the post-credits scenes in Superman, numerous possibilities exist for Corenswet’s Superman to meet various characters from the franchise. Fans are particularly eager to witness the meeting of Superman and Batman, with many hoping the version portrayed by Robert Pattinson will be the one to join forces with Corenswet’s hero.

Insights from Visual Effects Supervisor on Batman and Superman’s Visual Compatibility

During an interview with Joe Deckelmeier of ScreenRant, Guy Williams, the visual effects supervisor from Wētā who worked on Superman, was asked whether Pattinson’s Batman could visually fit into the same cinematic world as Corenswet’s Superman. Williams responded thoughtfully, highlighting the creative genius of directors capable of linking seemingly distinct stories into a cohesive narrative.

“That is a hell of a good question. I would say yes. You’ve got to understand, directors are some of the most amazing creative people in the world. Their job is to figure out how to take a concept that barely holds in your brain and turn it into a two-hour story that you can see. So, I guarantee you that there’s a handful of directors out there that could figure out how to tie those two together and make it work.” —Guy Williams, VFX Supervisor

Williams elaborated by comparing the potential integration of these heroes to how Rogue One, a darker Star Wars story, fits into the universe of the original Star Wars trilogy. He explained that differences in tone or visual style don’t necessarily imply separate worlds, as emotional resonance frequently shapes the viewing experience.

“It’s like saying, ‘Do you think that Rogue One Star Wars fits into the universe of the original Star Wars?’ Because Rogue One was a lot darker than the original Star Wars trilogy.”

He emphasized that audiences can emotionally differentiate scenes within a single film, even when tones vary dramatically, suggesting similar visual contrasts between Batman and Superman’s films could coexist.

Williams added,

“There are movies that do that all the time, where you have a horrific movie and, all of a sudden, the guy looks out to the water and sees a moment of beauty, and it reminds him that the world’s [beautiful.] I totally see that you could tie those two together.”

Why Pattinson’s Batman May Remain Separate from DCU’s Superman

Despite Williams’ optimistic perspective on creatively merging these characters, DC Studios has already finalized its plans for Batman’s role within their shared universe. Although Gotham City appeared as a subtle nod in Superman, the Batman depicted in the DCU will be portrayed by a different actor, distinct from Pattinson’s Caped Crusader.

Within the DCU timeline, Batman’s journey is envisioned to be further advanced compared to Pattinson’s incarnation. This narrative decision solidifies a separation between Matt Reeves’ Batman films and James Gunn’s DCU continuity. Consequently, Pattinson’s Batman is expected to continue in his own Elseworlds-style universe while the DCU develops new Batman projects, including the forthcoming The Brave and The Bold film.

Potential for Future Crossovers Through the Multiverse Concept

Williams’ comments would have perfectly aligned with crossover ambitions had The Brave and The Bold not established an exclusive Batman within the DCU. Nonetheless, the multiverse idea always leaves open the possibility of bringing different versions of Batman together with Superman in some capacity, even if those timelines remain distinct for now.

Regardless of whether Pattinson’s Batman ultimately joins the DCU, fans are set to see Corenswet’s Superman alongside a Batman in future DC projects, with casting decisions expected to be announced soon. Following Superman’s success, more clarity on the DCU’s Batman persona and narrative direction is anticipated.

Superman (2025) is currently available digitally, with physical media editions, including 4K UHD, Blu-ray, and DVD, set to release on September 23.
