Jurassic World Rebirth Tops Christopher Nolan at Box Office, Surpassing Oppenheimer and Batman v Superman

Jurassic World Rebirth has surpassed expectations by grossing $332 million domestically, edging past Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice in box office earnings. Despite mixed reviews and concluding the Jurassic World reboot series, Rebirth has secured a place among the top 100 highest-grossing films at the domestic box office to date.

Directed by Gareth Edwards, Jurassic World Rebirth marks the beginning of a new trilogy following the conclusion of the Chris Pratt-led Jurassic World series. The film‘s $332 million domestic total overtakes both Batman v Superman, which debuted in 2016, and Nolan’s Oppenheimer, released in 2023 alongside Greta Gerwig‘s Barbie. Although Oppenheimer earned critical acclaim and multiple Academy Awards—including Best Director, Best Picture, and Best Actor—it finished its domestic run with $330 million, just below Rebirth’s tally.

Oppenheimer, which chronicles the life of J. Robert Oppenheimer, known as the father of the atomic bomb, amassed over $975 million worldwide. This total is likely to increase further through planned future re-releases, potentially allowing it to join Nolan’s elite group of billion-dollar films worldwide, alongside The Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Rises. Meanwhile, each of the three films led by Chris Pratt in the Jurassic World franchise has passed the $1 billion mark globally, with the original Jurassic World topping $1.6 billion. Jurassic World Rebirth has currently earned $828 million worldwide, beating Nolan’s Inception in total global revenue.

Christopher Nolan Prepares His Next Ambitious Project

Rebirth opened to mixed critical response, settling around a 51% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. The studio retained tight control over the production, starting pre-production before director Gareth Edwards was even confirmed, aiming to maintain oversight given the declining commercial and critical performance in previous installments. Meanwhile, Christopher Nolan is developing what could be his most ambitious epic yet—an adaptation of The Odyssey. This upcoming project will feature an A-list cast, including Matt Damon, and is expected to attract significant interest upon release.

Jurassic World Rebirth stars Scarlett Johansson as Zora Bennett, Mahershala Ali, and Jonathan Bailey, who plays Dr. Henry Loomis. The film has now moved to home release platforms, offering audiences the chance to watch it outside theaters. The box office achievements of Rebirth highlight the enduring popularity of the Jurassic franchise even as new competitive titles continue to enter the market.
