“I hear, like, a lot of people are talking about self care, and I’m just wondering when,”

and explained the guilt working mothers feel about taking time away from their children. She admitted,

“because, like, I’m a working mom and so, like, I already have the guilt, and I don’t want to take more time away from them, but I understand, like, I need to fill up the tank.”

A Unique Self-Care Strategy Inspired by Government Visits

Williams revealed a humorous approach to finding quiet moments for herself, crediting her experiences with government bureaucracy for offering unexpected relief. She explained,

“You say, ‘I’m sorry, honey, but one day, you’re going to grow up and you’re going to get a job and you’re going to pay taxes, and you’re going to need a social security number for that,’”

describing how a midday appointment at a government office provides a peaceful break. According to Williams,

“And then here’s how it goes. I recommend a midday appointment, because it’s like a little bit more crowded, and then you can claim your rightful place at the back of the line, where they will let you wait in complete silence for at least one hour.”

She added,

“There is free seating for all. It is like, bring like a nail file and a to do list, and check, check, check, you know what I mean? And then you go to a window, they call your number, and it’s like a randomized system, so you feel ‘lottery winner.’ And then you are led to a window where you get to have an adult conversation. I mean, can I just shout her out also? Ms. Anderson, window 20 forever, like we’re actually friends now.”

Williams warned fellow parents,

“Don’t double check your paperwork, because you might have to go back.”
