Margaret Qualley Opens Up on Reluctance to Join Big Movie Franchises

Margaret Qualley has expressed a clear hesitation about joining a major movie franchise at this point in her career, emphasizing the significant commitment such roles demand. During a recent interview on Collider’s Ladies Night with host Perri Nemiroff, Qualley shared her thoughts on the topic while reflecting on her professional journey and future goals.

The Actress’s Perspective on Franchise Roles and Fan Speculation

When asked which film franchise she would choose if given the opportunity and what character she would like to portray, Qualley was candid about her reluctance.

“I don’t think I want to commit to a franchise,”

she admitted, laughing as she acknowledged her difficulty in even selecting a favorite franchise as a fan.

“It seems like a lot of time. I’m a commitment-phobe maybe. But also, no one’s asking me to do anything.”

Nemiroff brought up rumors regarding Qualley joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Rogue, a role that had become popular within fan circles. Qualley was surprised by these speculations and quickly dismissed them. Daughter of actress Andie MacDowell, Qualley began her career with HBO’s The Leftovers and has earned two Emmy nominations for her work in Maid and Fosse/Verdon. Her film credits include performances in The Nice Guys, Poor Things, and The Substance.

What Could Influence Qualley to Enter a Franchise

Although hesitant, Qualley did not rule out the possibility of joining a major franchise in the future. When questioned about what might convince her to sign a multi-film contract, she emphasized the importance of the people behind the project. “Probably just a director,” she said thoughtfully.

“I think if you have an amazing director you feel safe and excited.”

Potential Impact on Qualley’s Career and Audience Expectations

Qualley’s cautious approach toward franchise roles highlights a thoughtful consideration of how such commitments might influence her career path. Her preference for working with directors she trusts suggests a focus on creative fulfillment over blockbuster exposure. Fans and industry observers will likely continue to watch her choices closely, anticipating if or when she decides to embrace the demands of a large-scale movie series.
