A24 is celebrating the reopening of the historic Cherry Lane Theatre in New York’s West Village with a week-long series of special events beginning September 8. This occasion marks the return of the beloved off-Broadway venue, featuring appearances by Sofia Coppola, Jodie Foster, Spike Lee, and other notable artists, highlighting A24’s commitment to revitalizing the space.
Highlights of the Reopening Week Activities
The Cherry Lane Theatre’s reopening schedule includes a variety of unique performances and screenings across several nights. The festivities open with a film screening of Spike Lee’s 25th Hour followed by a Q&A session with Lee himself. The following day features a staged reading of Sam Shepard’s play True West, starring Michael Shannon and others, directed by Lila Neugebauer. Upcoming Production and Theatre Renovations
Following the reopening events, Cherry Lane’s first long-running production under A24 will be Natalie Palamides’ one-woman comedy Weirdo, with previews starting September 20 and a sold-out opening on September 28. The show has been extended through November 9 due to high demand. In preparation for these events, A24 has completed extensive renovations at the 166-seat venue, enhancing technical equipment, seating, and lobby areas, and installing a new film projector and screen. Additionally, A24 collaborated with the team behind Frenchette to launch a new restaurant within the theatre.
