Lola Tung and Nico Parker Star in Osgood Perkins’ New Film The Young

Lola Tung and Nico Parker have been cast in The Young People, the latest project from director Osgood Perkins, known for his previous work Longlegs. Perkins penned the script himself, and production is scheduled to start this fall in Vancouver. The film’s plot remains undisclosed, but it is expected to center around youth, aligning with its title.

Neon and Partners Back The Young for Theatrical Release

Neon, which maintains a first-look deal with Perkins and previously released his films Longlegs and Monkey, is co-financing and will handle the theatrical distribution of The Young People. Production is also supported by Lyrical Media, with Perkins producing alongside Chris Ferguson from Phobos and Brian Kavanaugh-Jones from Range. Neon’s recent accolades include the 2024 Best Picture Oscar for Anora, as well as the earlier win for Parasite. The company continues to strengthen its slate with upcoming films including Park Chan-wook’s No Other Choice and multiple debuts scheduled for TIFF.

Careers of Lead Actors Highlighted by Recent and Upcoming Projects

Lola Tung currently stars in the lead role for Season 3 of Prime Video’s The Summer I Turned Pretty and recently completed the horror feature Forbidden Fruits, expected in theaters in 2026. She also made her Broadway debut as Eurydice in Hadestown during a limited engagement earlier this year.

Nico Parker gained recognition through Universal’s live-action remake of How To Train Your Dragon and appears in Maude Apatow’s directorial debut, Poetic License, premiering at the upcoming TIFF. Her credits also include Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy, Suncoast, and HBO’s critically acclaimed The Last Of Us, which earned her a 2024 BAFTA Television Award nomination.

Industry Connections and Partnerships Supporting New Projects

Neon’s continued collaboration with Osgood Perkins reflects growing trust in his vision, reinforced by his recent deal signed with the company in May. Lyrical Media, meanwhile, is advancing other notable productions, including Adam Wingard’s Onslaught and Michael Sarnoski’s The Death of Robin Hood, featuring Hugh Jackman, Jodie Comer, and Bill SkarsgĂ„rd.

Representation for the principal players includes Lola Tung with CAA, Carissa Stewart, Narrative, and Jackoway Austen Tyerman et al.; Nico Parker with WME and Curtis Brown Group; and Osgood Perkins with CAA and Untitled Entertainment.

Significance of The Young Within Osgood Perkins’ Emerging Filmography

The Young People marks a continued evolution for Perkins as a filmmaker, blending his scriptwriting with production and direction. Coming on the heels of his upcoming film Keeper, set for release this November through Neon, the new project is positioned to further establish Perkins’ presence in contemporary cinema focused on youth perspectives. With a strong cast and industry backing, its theatrical debut will attract attention from both audiences and critics alike, contributing to the growing anticipation around Perkins’ work.
