Renowned director Ridley Scott recently offered a brief update on the development of Gladiator 3 and hinted at the possibility of creating another Alien prequel. Though he has not been directly involved in recent Alien productions, Scott continues to serve as a producer for the franchise’s ongoing science fiction saga.
In an interview with The Guardian, Scott confirmed his willingness to return to the Alien universe if a compelling concept emerges. He also announced that work has begun on Gladiator’s third installment, following the positive reception of Gladiator II last year.
Gladiator is in process right now. Another Alien prequel – yeah, if I get an idea, for sure,
Scott stated.
Current Status of the Alien: Earth Series and Gladiator II’s Success
At present, Scott is one of the producers on FX’s Alien: Earth, a prequel series to the 1979 film starring Sigourney Weaver. Created by Noah Hawley, the show features actors such as Sydney Chandler, Timothy Olyphant, Alex Lawther, Adarsh Gourav, Kit Young, Erana James, Lily Newmark, and Jonathan Ajayi. The series is available on Hulu, where it has earned a 95% Certified Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes after its first four episodes.
Gladiator II, directed by Scott and scripted by David Scarpa, boasted a strong cast including Paul Mescal as Lucius, Pedro Pascal as Acacius, and Denzel Washington as Macrinus. Washington’s performance earned him a Golden Globe nomination for Best Supporting Actor. Meanwhile, Scott is also preparing for the 2026 release of his new sci-fi film, The Dog Stars, starring Jacob Elordi, Margaret Qualley, and Josh Brolin.
