Sean Penn will be the guest of honor at this year’s Lumiere Festival, an event held in Lyon celebrating heritage cinema and recognizing influential figures in the film industry. The festival, led by Cannes director Thierry Fremaux, will take place from October 11 to 19 and is known for honoring iconic directors and actors while showcasing classic films.
Honoring a Celebrated Film and Filmmaker
At the festival, Penn will present his 2007 film Into the Wild, which received two Oscar nominations in 2008. The movie tells the true story of Christopher McCandless, played by Emile Hirsch, a college graduate who leaves behind his affluent lifestyle to journey into the wilderness of Alaska in search of freedom and meaning.

Current and Future Projects of Sean Penn
Sean Penn, an Oscar-winning actor and director, is currently working on Paul Thomas Anderson’s upcoming film One Battle After Another, where he stars alongside Leonardo DiCaprio and Benicio Del Toro. In addition to acting, Penn served as executive producer on Worlds of War, James Strong’s thriller based on the life of journalist and human rights activist Anna Politkovskaya.
