Tom Holland Stars in LEGO’s New Short Film ‘Never Stop Playing’

Tom Holland, best known for his role as Spider-Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, stars alongside his twin brothers Harry and Sam in a new short film by the LEGO Group titled Never Stop Playing. Released in 2024, this vibrant film delivers a powerful message encouraging children and families to keep their imaginative and playful spirit alive despite the pressures of growing up. Through this project, the Tom Holland LEGO Never Stop Playing collaboration aims to inspire creativity and joy in people of all ages worldwide.

A Dynamic Celebration of Creativity and Fun

Never Stop Playing is an upbeat short film set to the electric rock anthem “High Voltage” by AC/DC, blending humor, excitement, and a call to embrace playfulness. The film is part of the LEGO Group’s annual Rebuild the World campaign, which highlights the importance of creativity and play in everyday life. By starring in this film, Tom Holland helps communicate that imagination does not diminish with age but should instead be nurtured continually.

Throughout the film, Holland symbolically clicks two LEGO bricks together, marking his choice to embrace playfulness. He takes on several playful personas, from a star footballer named The Gamechanger,” to The Innovator,” an entrepreneur sharing wisdom, and The Creator,” who brings energy to a dull gallery. The film also depicts him as an undercover LEGO minifigure and humorously as a strict boss who has forgotten the value of fun, emphasizing that play is always an option, no matter one’s age or life stage.

Imaginative LEGO Creations Enhance the Film’s Playful Message

The film features a stunning array of LEGO brick props, crafted to showcase creativity and wonder. Highlights include rocket-powered shoes designed specifically for the film, a lush garden brimming with imaginative details, a LEGO Phoenix that Holland assembles mid-flight, as well as oversized footballs, megaphones, and wildlife figures made entirely of LEGO bricks. These elements visually underline LEGO’s philosophy of play as a form of creative expression.

Tom Holland Reflects on His Childhood and Role as Playmaker

Reflecting on his involvement, Tom Holland shared,

I loved building with LEGO bricks as a child. My brothers and I would create our own wild worlds, turning the living room into a prehistoric jungle with our LEGO dinosaur set or set up racing tracks for our LEGO cars! It was fun to relive those memories on set. Becoming an official ‘Playmaker’ is very cool. No matter how busy life gets, I’ve never stopped playing…and I don’t plan to anytime soon!

He further emphasized the role of play in self-expression:

I hope that this short film I did with the LEGO Group demonstrates the idea that to play is a way of expressing who we are no matter what age!  For me, it’s always been an important element of exploring the world and embracing the environment I’m in, Whether I’m on set or just hanging out with my brother and mates, I try to bring an element of play into everything I do.

Family Bonds and the Importance of Staying Playful

Fans can spot Tom’s brothers Sam and Harry making surprise appearances in the film, highlighting the connection that play fosters among family and friends. The trio’s involvement reinforces the message that maintaining a playful spirit strengthens relationships and builds joy across generations.

Research Reveals Challenges and Pressures Facing Children Today

The film’s release follows new research commissioned by the LEGO Group that highlights how societal pressures are affecting children’s willingness to engage in play. The survey, involving 20,000 parents and children aged 6–16 across 10 countries, found that 44% of children feel pressured to grow up quickly, and 48% have stopped playing with certain toys or activities because they were labeled childish” or “babyish.” Additionally, 24% reported that friends or family told them it was uncool to play often or very often. This data underlines the significance of LEGO’s campaign to encourage play regardless of age.
