Colin Farrell Praises Batman 2 Script but Confirms Small Penguin Role

Colin Farrell, who portrayed the Penguin in the first Batman film, has expressed his admiration for the script of Matt Reeves‘ upcoming sequel, The Batman 2, while confirming that his role will remain limited. Farrell shared in a recent interview that although his screen time is minimal, he believes the story is exceptional.

I haven’t got much to do on it, just a little bit,

he said.

I read the script and it’s extraordinary.

Production Timeline and Sequel Details

The Batman 2 has been anticipated for several years since its announcement over three years ago. However, the script for the sequel only arrived at DC Studios this past summer. Filming is planned to commence next year, setting a release date for October 1, 2027. This sequel will premiere more than five years after the original movie debuted.

Robert Pattinson will reprise his role as Batman, while key cast members such as Jeffrey Wright, who plays Jim Gordon, are yet to see the script, illustrating the secretive nature of the production.

The Penguin’s Future on Screen

Regarding The Penguin’s storyline beyond the films, Farrell expressed a cautious stance about continuing the character’s journey in the television series. While there have been discussions about a possible second season of The Penguin series, Farrell is unsure if extending the story is beneficial.

I know that I heard rumblings that they were thinking they’d like to do a second season, but I don’t know if it’s a good idea,

Farrell remarked.

I don’t know the way you go back to the trough… And part of me wants to go, ‘Just let it go, people. We got away with it. Leave it as it is.’

Connecting the Series and Future Installments

The showrunner of The Penguin series indicated that if a second season does happen, it would likely take place only after the release of The Batman 2, describing the first season as a launchpad for Farrell’s character into the larger film universe. There is also speculation about a third Batman movie being in development, which could further expand the storyline introduced in the earlier films and series.

Looking Ahead to The Batman 2 and Beyond

The Batman 2 is highly awaited by fans and promises to continue the dark, complex world established by the initial film. With key players like Matt Reeves directing and Robert Pattinson returning as the Caped Crusader, expectations remain high. Colin Farrell’s cautious but supportive comments highlight the balance between expanding an iconic story and preserving its impact. Audiences can look forward to the sequel’s release in theaters in the fall of 2027, while keeping an eye on potential developments in the associated television series and further sequels within DC Studios’ plans.
