Never-Before-Seen Elizabeth Olsen Scarlet Witch Poses from Avengers Revealed

The post-credits scene in Captain America: The Winter Soldier unveiled how remnants of HYDRA utilized Loki‘s sceptre to grant the twins, Quicksilver and the Scarlet Witch, their extraordinary abilities, aiming to use them against The Avengers. This revelation set the foundation for the characters’ development in the MCU. Later, the show WandaVision expanded on this by showing that the Mind Stone in the sceptre actually unlocked powers that were inherent within Wanda Maximoff herself.

The Transformation of Scarlet Witch from Villain to Hero

In Avengers: Age of Ultron, Wanda and her brother Pietro started as antagonists aligned with Ultron, diverging from their comic book origins where they had connections to Magneto. This change was due to 20th Century Fox owning the X-Men rights at that time. However, like their comic counterparts, the twins eventually recognized their mistakes and became allies of The Avengers. Quicksilver sacrificed himself to save Hawkeye, and in honor of her brother, Wanda adopted the Scarlet Witch persona as part of a revamped team along with Captain America and Black Widow.

Elizabeth Olsen Reflects on Portraying Scarlet Witch Across the MCU

Olsen has spoken thoughtfully about her decade-long journey embodying the Scarlet Witch, describing it as “really unusual” but highly rewarding. She shared,

“It’s something that’s been incredible. I assume it’s how people feel when they get to do a TV show for a long time. To be able to return to a character and continue to move them forward has been so much fun for me, especially because they gave me something like WandaVision to really blow it all up.” —Elizabeth Olsen, Actress

She also commented on the surprising turns the character has taken, including the storyline in Doctor Strange:

“And from there, Doctor Strange was such a wild and crazy turn. I do feel very lucky that I’ve been able to play a character for over 10 years of my life, and I’d love to keep doing more,”

“But the animation thing, I feel like it’s a parallel world. I don’t really know how it intersects with what we do. But I’ve really enjoyed getting to play her over 10 years, and I continue to feel lucky that I have the opportunities I did, creatively.” —Elizabeth Olsen, Actress
