James Gunn’s Superman Sequel Titled “Man of Tomorrow,” Releases 2027

James Gunn has officially announced the title and release date for the much-anticipated sequel to his Superman film. Named Superman: Man of Tomorrow, the follow-up is scheduled to hit theaters on July 9, 2027, with Nicholas Hoult and David Corenswet expected to reprise their roles.

James Gunn Confirms Continuation of Superman Storyline

The announcement was made by James Gunn, director and co-head of DC Films, who shared a comic book image depicting Superman alongside his adversary Lex Luthor in his Warsuit, illustrated by Jim Lee. This visual hint points toward an ongoing conflict between the iconic hero and his nemesis in the upcoming film.

Sequel Details and Background on the First Film

Since the original film’s release, fans have eagerly speculated about a sequel. In August, Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav confirmed that Gunn would return as both writer and director. The first film, released in July, showed Superman grappling with serious repercussions after intervening in an international dispute manipulated by billionaire Lex Luthor. Earning $600 million worldwide, it became the highest-grossing superhero film of the year and received positive critical reception.

The cast included Rachel Brosnahan, Edi Gathegi, Anthony Carrigan, Nathan Fillion, and Isabela Merced, alongside Hoult and Corenswet.

Upcoming DC Studios Projects Following Superman

Following the release of Superman: Man of Tomorrow, DC Studios has several projects lined up. Craig Gillespie’s Supergirl will premiere on June 26, 2026, followed by James Watkins’ horror film Clayface on September 11, 2026. Additionally, Matt Reeves’ The Batman Part II is set for release later in 2027, specifically on October 1, coming shortly after the Superman sequel.
