At the 2025 Toronto International Film Festival on September 5, Sydney Sweeney captivated attendees with a striking classic bombshell look on the red carpet. The actress, 27, showcased her sculpted hourglass figure in a corset-style gown at the premiere of her new biopic, Christy, held at the Princess of Wales Theatre.
Sweeney’s dress featured a sharply contoured corset bodice that emphasized her slim waist, flowing into a dramatic, voluminous skirt accented by a crimson rosette at the hip. She completed her ensemble with soft, vintage-inspired waves and understated makeup highlighting a smokey eye and nude lips, channeling Old Hollywood elegance.
Meeting the Real Christy Martin and Preparing for the Role
Before taking the stage, Sydney posed for photos alongside the real-life boxer Christy Martin, whose life story she portrays in the film generating Oscar buzz. To authentically embody Martin, Sweeney underwent a significant physical transformation, gaining between 30 and 35 pounds and building a strong, muscular physique through a rigorous training and nutrition program.
In a June interview with W Magazine, Sweeney detailed her intense preparation:
“I came onboard to play Christy, and I had about three and a half months of training. I started eating. I weight-trained in the morning for an hour, kickboxed midday for about two hours, and then weight-trained again at night for an hour,”
she said.
Physical Changes and Emotional Impact of Transformation
Discussing the dramatic changes to her body, Sweeney shared how the transformation affected her wardrobe and self-perception.
“My body was completely different,”
she recalled,
“I didn’t fit in any of my clothes. I’m usually a size 23 in jeans, and I was wearing a size 27. My boobs got bigger. And my butt got huge. It was crazy! I was like, Oh my god.”
Despite the challenges, Sweeney found strength in the experience and embraced her physical power.
“But it was amazing,”
she added.
“I was so strong, like crazy strong.”
Upcoming Release and Growing Recognition
Christy is scheduled for nationwide theatrical release on November 7, 2025. Anticipation for the film continues to rise as Sweeney’s compelling portrayal of Christy Martin garners attention for potential award season recognition.
