Oscar Isaac has indicated his enthusiasm to return as Resistance pilot Poe Dameron in the upcoming Star Wars: Starfighter film. Speaking on the red carpet at the Toronto International Film Festival, Isaac told Entertainment Tonight,
“I’m ready for it. Let me know when.”
Isaac first appeared as Poe Dameron in Star Wars: The Force Awakens and reprised the role in The Last Jedi and The Rise of Skywalker. Poe, an X-wing pilot for the Resistance, plays a crucial part in leading key characters such as Finn (John Boyega) and Rey (Daisy Ridley) against the First Order.
Starfighter’s Setting and Connection to Previous Films
Director Shawn Levy has shared that Starfighter will be set five or six years after the events of The Rise of Skywalker. This timeline suggests that including Poe Dameron would be a natural fit for the story. The movie promises to explore a new era within the Star Wars universe, branching out from the Skywalker saga.
Officially announced at Star Wars Celebration 2025, Starfighter will feature a fresh narrative, described as “an all-new standalone adventure” and an
“original story set in a period of time never before explored.”
Jonathan Tropper is writing the script, with Levy directing.
Cast Announced for the New Star Wars Project
The film’s cast includes Flynn Gray, Matt Smith, Mia Goth, Aaron Pierre, Simon Bird, Jamael Westman, Daniel Ings, and Amy Adams. While the plot details remain scarce, the production has generated excitement thanks to its talented lineup and creative team.
Release Date and Future Prospects
Star Wars: Starfighter is scheduled to premiere on May 28, 2027. Isaac’s potential return, alongside the new cast and director, signals a promising expansion of the Star Wars saga, designed to introduce fresh characters and stories.
