John Boyega Wants to Star in Spaceballs Sequel: “Let Me Make It Legit”

John Boyega, known for his role as Finn in the Star Wars sequel trilogy, has revealed his desire to star in the upcoming Spaceballs sequel. While he has moved on from the Star Wars franchise, Boyega is eager to take part in this new sci-fi comedy project, emphasizing his enthusiasm during a recent event.

Speaking at Dragon Con, Boyega shared,

“[My phone] hasn’t rung yet, so I have to come here and just say it,”

and added,

“They could pick up the phone and give me a call. Let me make Spaceballs legit.”

The Legacy and Revival of Spaceballs

The original Spaceballs, directed by Mel Brooks and released in 1987, remains a cult classic that satirizes iconic sci-fi franchises such as Star Wars, Star Trek, and Transformers. The film follows Lone Star, a mercenary played by Bill Pullman, and his alien sidekick Barf, portrayed by John Candy, on a mission to rescue Princess Vespa, played by Daphne Zuniga, from the villainous Spaceballs led by President Skroob and Dark Helmet.

Nearly 40 years later, the sequel was officially announced this past summer, with a planned release date in 2027. Many original cast members, including Bill Pullman, Rick Moranis, Daphne Zuniga, and Mel Brooks, will return. New cast members joining the project feature Bill Pullman’s son, Lewis Pullman, as Lone Star’s son, Starburst, alongside Keke Palmer and Josh Gad.

John Boyega’s Role Transition and Star Wars Updates

Boyega’s transition away from Star Wars leaves his future in the franchise unclear, unlike Daisy Ridley, who is confirmed to reprise her role as Rey in a new film continuing her story 15 years after The Rise of Skywalker. Meanwhile, Star Wars co-stars such as Oscar Isaac have expressed interest in reprising roles like Poe Dameron, while Alden Ehrenreich has not ruled out a return but remains cautious.

The Growing Anticipation for Spaceballs 2

With Spaceballs 2 set to bring back beloved characters and introduce a new generation, John Boyega’s eagerness to join signals exciting possibilities for fans. The announced cast blend offers a connection to the original alongside fresh talent, promising to revive the franchise’s unique humor for a new audience.

As fans await the sequel’s 2027 release, Boyega’s hopeful call to be part of Spaceballs highlights his ongoing attraction to imaginative sci-fi projects beyond his Star Wars origins and adds anticipation to the film’s development.
