Colin Farrell’s Daily Crisp Sandwich Secret for Margot Robbie

Margot Robbie discovered a new favorite snack while filming the romantic drama A Big Bold Beautiful Journey with Colin Farrell, and it quickly became a beloved treat on set. This Margot Robbie crisp sandwich tradition, featuring potato chips between buttered bread, has roots in European, especially Irish and U.K., cuisine.

During a joint appearance on the September 16 episode of Today, Colin Farrell shared how the unique snack became part of their daily routine. Farrell explained that during rehearsal, he talked about crisp sandwiches, which Margot refers to as “chippy sandwiches.” It wasn’t long before he made one for her, and she took to it immediately.

How the Crisp Sandwich Became a Set Staple

Colin Farrell, 49, reminisced about Margot Robbie’s growing fondness for the crisp sandwich, a simple yet delicious combination of buttered white bread and crunchy potato chips. The snack is a common treat in Ireland and the U.K. and quickly won over her palate. Farrell made it a point to provide Margot with a fresh sandwich every morning during filming.

A lot of that was just banter—just talking about our past—and I was talking about crisp sandwiches, which she calls ‘chippy sandwiches.’ So, I made her one.

A Live-televised Sandwich Surprise

On the same Today episode, co-anchor Craig Melvin surprised Colin and Margot with freshly prepared crisp sandwiches. Upon tasting the snack, Farrell’s excitement was palpable as he identified the brand instantly.

Is that Tayto? he asked, referring to the iconic Irish potato chip brand. When confirmed, Colin exclaimed on-air:

It is! I f–king knew it!

Margot Robbie quickly reacted with laughter and a playful reprimand, but Colin shrugged off the slip, explaining he had a mouthful.

It was a full mouth, they didn’t hear me, I knew it was Tayto. This is actually very good.

Margot acknowledged the snack’s appeal, sharing she hadn’t eaten yet and found the crisp sandwich ideal for breakfast. This candid moment highlighted the joy and camaraderie shared between the actors and brought attention to a simple comfort food amid their busy workdays.

My go-to snack is canned oysters. I know that might sound weird, but I am absolutely obsessed with canned oysters. They are such a good source of protein, magnesium and vitamin C. I eat them straight out of the can, but sometimes if I want some extra carbs, I’ll eat them with crackers and the crunch of the cracker with the soft oyster is so good!

Chloe Trautman has perfected a special version of apples and peanut butter, heating the peanut butter with honey to create a caramel-like dip.

Apples and peanut butter but not just your average apples and peanut butter, folks. There is a science to this special snack. First, they have to be honeycrisp apples, cut very thin. Then you get your peanut butter, melt it, add some honey and stir all the deliciousness together! This creates almost like a caramel consistency. You don’t use nearly as much peanut butter and you avoid getting it on your thumb every time you dip. Brilliant, I know!
