Jessica Chastain and Octavia Spencer are coming together again on screen for the first time in over a decade, starring in the new Octavia Spencer Holiday Movie, Deck the Y’alls. This reunion marks their first collaboration since the 2011 film The Help, bringing their shared chemistry to a festive story set in Charleston, South Carolina.
A Festive Tale of Love and Family in Charleston
The film centers on Rachel Stein, played by Chastain, a baker from New York who travels to Charleston to spend Christmas with Beau, a younger Southern gentleman she has fallen for. There, she encounters Beau’s overprotective mother, Gladys Gibbes, a celebrity chef portrayed by Spencer. Their opposing personalities lead to a clash during the holiday season, adding tension and humor to the story.
The screenplay is co-written by Tracy Oliver, known for her work on Girls Trip, alongside Stefanie Williams. Wanda Sykes will also feature in the cast as filming is set to begin next year.
Long-Standing Friendship and Celebrating Success
Chastain and Spencer have maintained a close friendship since their time working together on The Help. This renewed collaboration comes shortly after Spencer and fellow co-star Viola Davis joined in celebrating Chastain’s recent honor of receiving a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, a significant milestone in her career.
Their reunion in Deck the Y’alls promises to offer audiences a heartfelt holiday story enriched by the genuine bond between two Oscar-winning actresses and a cast that includes other notable talents.
