Demon Slayer Soars as Jordan Peele’s HIM Grabs No. 2 Spot

Demon Slayer: Kimetsu No Yaiba Infinity Castle continues to lead the domestic box office in its second weekend, while Jordan Peele’s sports horror film, Him, debuts strongly in second place. The anime movie not only maintained its momentum but also surpassed Pokemon: The First Movie – Mewtwo Strikes Back as the highest-grossing anime film in North America.

Box Office Figures and Projections

After earning $4.56 million on Friday, Infinity Castle is expected to bring in about $16.3 million during its second weekend, signaling a 77% drop from the opening week. Despite this significant decline, the film is on track to reach the $100 million milestone at the domestic box office this weekend. In contrast, Jordan Peele’s Him, after an opening day of $6.47 million, is predicted to gather roughly $15 million over the full weekend. Though this is below the initial forecast of $18 million, it secures Him the strong second position behind Infinity Castle.

Competitive Titles and Their Standing

Behind these two releases, Sony’s R-rated fantasy, A Big Bold Beautiful Journey, grabbed $1.4 million on its opening day, including preview screenings. It is expected to debut with about $8 million domestically. In fourth place, The Long Walk is projected to make $6.3 million during its second weekend, dropping 46% after opening with $1.8 million on Friday. Following closely is Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale, based on the beloved TV series, nestled just behind the Stephen King adaptation with a forecasted second weekend of $6 million, representing a 66% decline.

Box Office Outlook Amid Uncertainty

While Demon Slayer’s dominance signals strong audience interest, the steep declines in weekend drops across titles highlight a tense and uncertain market for new releases. Jordan Peele’s HIM movie impresses with its early performance but falls short of original projections, underscoring the competitive and unpredictable nature of the current domestic box office landscape.
