Steve Martin has postponed his comedy tour after testing positive for COVID-19, leading to the cancellation of two shows in Virginia. This announcement affects his widely anticipated appearances alongside Martin Short on the Dukes of Funnytown tour, highlighting the challenges facing performers amid ongoing health concerns.
COVID-19 Forces Steve Martin to Cancel Two Virginia Performances
On September 19, Steve Martin revealed on Instagram that he had contracted COVID-19, causing him to cancel his scheduled shows at Virginia Beach’s The Dome and Richmond’s Allianz Amphitheater at Riverfront on September 19 and 20. These cancellations were unexpected disappointments for fans eager to see the duo’s performances in the state.
In his social media message, Martin expressed regret over the cancellations, writing,
“Dear Virginia Beach and Richmond. Sadly, I have come down with COVID. I can’t possibly do the shows that you deserve. So Marty and I must cancel tonight & tomorrow. But we will return under better circumstances,”
accompanied by a photo of a somber dog wearing Mickey Mouse ears. He later shared an image of his positive test, humorously noting, “Hey! No flu!”
Official Confirmation and Tour Adjustments Amid Health Precautions
Following Martin’s announcement, his official website confirmed that the Virginia dates were canceled out of an abundance of caution. Fans were reassured that ticket refunds would be available, and the team apologized for the abrupt scheduling changes caused by the illness.
Despite this setback, the Dukes of Funnytown tour will continue, with the next show slated for October 4 at Hard Rock Live at Seminole Hard Rock in Hollywood, Florida. The tour includes over 30 performances spanning the U.S. and will extend through April 2026.
Ongoing Creative Projects and Longstanding Partnership Between Martin and Short
Besides touring, Steve Martin and Martin Short remain active in television. Both stars recently returned for the fifth season of Hulu’s successful series Only Murders in the Building, showcasing their enduring chemistry. Their collaboration dates back to the 1986 comedy film Three Amigos, reflecting a decades-long friendship and creative partnership.
For audiences in Virginia, the cancellation signals a temporary disappointment, but Martin’s promise to reschedule “under better circumstances” suggests the pair will return once his health improves. The interruption underscores the ongoing impact COVID-19 continues to have on live entertainment schedules across the country.
