Leonardo DiCaprio Reveals New Scorsese Movie Inspired by Vertigo

Leonardo DiCaprio, the Academy Award-winning actor, revealed details about his next Leonardo DiCaprio Scorsese movie, an adaptation of Peter Cameron’s novel What Happens at Night. This new film marks a follow-up to their recent joint project, 2023’s highly praised crime drama Killers of the Flower Moon.

Influence of Hitchcock’s Vertigo on the New Film

In a recent conversation on The Big Picture podcast, DiCaprio explained that Alfred Hitchcock’s 1958 psychological thriller Vertigo serves as a creative reference for Martin Scorsese’s forthcoming project. The original Vertigo featured actors James Stewart and Kim Novak and explored themes of mystery and perception.

I’m working on a film where [Vertigo] is a reference point. Had a conversation with Marty about it,

DiCaprio said.

Any time you get to see and talk movies with him, it’s a religious experience. But when he talks about a movie that he’s still trying to figure out, he’s like, you know, ‘Each decade that movie means something different to me. Is she a ghost, or is she not a ghost? Is she there? Is he a ghost?’ So yeah, there’s something we’re working on that’s a reference to that.

Project Details and Cast

The film will be directed by Martin Scorsese from a script written by Patrick Marber. Alongside DiCaprio, the cast includes Jennifer Lawrence, with whom he previously worked on the 2021 comedy Don’t Look Up. While Scorsese has produced Lawrence’s movie Die, My Love, this will be the first time he directs her. Apple Original Films is negotiating to finance and produce the movie together with StudioCanal.

The story follows a married American couple who travel to a small, snowy European town to adopt a baby. They check into a cavernous, largely deserted hotel where they encounter an enigmatic cast of characters, including a flamboyant chanteuse, a depraved businessman, and a charismatic faith healer,

the initial synopsis reveals.

Nothing is quite as it seems in this strange, frozen world. As the couple struggles to claim their baby, the less they seem to know about themselves and the life they’ve built together.

Anticipated Production Timeline and Themes

The film has not yet been assigned an official release date, though production is expected to commence in January 2026. The storyline’s mysterious and tense atmosphere, combined with the influence of psychological thriller elements from Vertigo, suggests an intense exploration of identity and trust within relationships. This latest Leonardo DiCaprio Scorsese movie continues their creative partnership while delving into themes of uncertainty and emotional complexity.
