James Gunn Teases Big Brother Cameos in DC Universe

James Gunn, the new co-head of DC Studios and a devoted Big Brother fan, has hinted at the possibility of including Big Brother personalities in upcoming DC Universe projects. Speaking recently on Big Brother: Unlocked, Gunn expressed interest in featuring reality stars in cameo roles within the rebooted DCU, blending his passion for reality TV with his filmmaking work.

James Gunn’s Passion for Big Brother and Potential DC Cameos

During his guest appearance on Big Brother: Unlocked, Gunn discussed his appreciation for the show and the reality TV genre, drawing parallels to how Mike White integrated Survivor alumni into his HBO series The White Lotus. Gunn revealed that he has formed friendships with Big Brother winners Taylor Hale and Derrick Levasseur, and warmly welcomed the idea of them appearing in his DC projects.

“I’ve become very friendly with [winners] Taylor [Hale] and Derrick [Levasseur],”

Gunn told Entertainment Weekly.

“And so if they want a cameo in a DC project in the future — not necessarily with dialogue, but if they want to come by and do what other people have been doing in my movies for so long, they’re more than welcome to do that.”

Reality Stars’ Roles Within the DC Universe

While Gunn is open to featuring reality TV personalities in his DCU productions, he is cautious about casting them as established characters from the comics. He joked about their acting skills, suggesting more modest parts could suit them better.

“I don’t know if I see Derrick as necessarily somebody who would be a great actor,”

Gunn said with a laugh.

“So I don’t know if I see them as characters. But they could be a cashier or something.”

Big Brother Host’s Enthusiasm for Crossovers

Julie Chen Moonves, host of Big Brother and Big Brother: Unlocked, was a key figure in sparking the idea of integrating Big Brother alumni into DC projects. She praised Gunn’s enthusiasm for the show and expressed excitement over the potential for playful crossovers between the reality series and the DCU.

“It was incredible! Talk about expect the unexpected!!!”

Chen Moonves told Entertainment Weekly, reflecting on Gunn’s surprise appearance.

“Who knew he’s been watching since season 1?! He is a true fan through and through and that really came through. I love how invested he is in the show, both time-wise and in his veins!”

“I would be tickled pink if the DCU had a wink and a nod to the BBU with a cameo of Taylor,”

Chen Moonves added.

“Or have a scene on a Hollywood lot and you see Zingbot on a coffee break holding the head part of his costume while yucking it up with the Mastermind and Jankie.”

Upcoming Projects in the DC Universe

Although James Gunn’s schedule is currently full with exciting releases, the door remains open for Big Brother personalities to appear in future DCU works. Peacemaker season 2 is airing on HBO Max, Supergirl is set to premiere on June 26, 2026, and the Man of Tomorrow film is scheduled for July 9, 2027. These projects highlight Gunn’s ongoing commitment to expanding the DC Universe, with the possibility of reality TV stars making guest appearances to add a fun, unexpected layer for fans.
