Frank Grillo Reveals Truth About Working with Stallone

Frank Grillo, star of Tulsa King Season 3, recently shared insights into working with action legend Sylvester Stallone on the gritty crime drama created by Taylor Sheridan. Despite joining the cast in Season 2, Grillo’s character, Bill Bevilaqua, has become a key figure in the globally popular series, which stars Stallone and other notable actors like Neal McDonough and Garrett Hedlund. The first two episodes of Tulsa King’s third season are currently available on Paramount+.

Frank Grillo Reflects on Collaborating with Sylvester Stallone

During a panel at FanX Salt Lake Comic Convention, moderated by Collider’s Maggie Lovitt, Grillo discussed his experience working alongside Stallone. He highlighted Stallone’s relentless passion for his craft, even at 79, describing the actor’s generosity and ability to uplift fellow performers on set. Grillo remarked,

“There’s a passion, at 79, that he still carries for the work, and a generosity,”

and added,

“He understands who he is and what effect he has on people, especially actors, but his generosity as a fellow actor is true immediately in a place where he’s making you better, you know what I mean?”

Grillo acknowledged that while Stallone’s fame may not resonate as strongly with younger audiences, his status as one of the greatest action stars remains undisputed. For actors like Grillo, working with Stallone is a rare and invaluable opportunity. He concluded by praising Stallone’s supportive nature, saying,

“you can be yourself [around him], and creative. I can’t say enough great things about this guy; he’s a really amazing individual.”

The audience responded with enthusiastic applause following these remarks.

Grillo’s Expanding Career Beyond Tulsa King

Beyond his role in Tulsa King, Frank Grillo is gaining momentum within the DC Universe, particularly under James Gunn’s direction. He was cast as Rick Flag Sr., the father of Rick Flag Jr. (played by Joel Kinnaman). After leading the DCU series Creature Commandos and appearing in a minor role in Superman, Grillo continues to appear in a recurring role in Peacemaker Season 2. His character Rick Flag Sr. currently occupies a position of influence at ARGUS following the departure of Amanda Waller, portrayed by Viola Davis, though tensions are expected upon her return regarding leadership.
