George Clooney recently opened up about his 8-year-old twins, Alexander and Ella, and their uncertain future career paths. Speaking at the New York Film Festival on September 29, Clooney shared insights about life at home with his wife, Amal Clooney, and their children, while addressing whether the twins have shown any interest in acting so far.
George Clooney Reflects on His Children’s Interest in Acting
At 64 years old, George Clooney acknowledged that it remains difficult to predict what his children will pursue.
“I don’t know—it’s so hard to tell at 8,”
he told E! News during the premiere of his new film, Jay Kelly.
“They’re very funny kids, and they love to get up and sing. But you know, I hope they do exactly what they want to do in life, and that’s all you can hope for.”
Understanding Fame Through a Child’s Eyes
While the twins are aware of their parents’ high-profile careers—George as an acclaimed actor and Amal as a human rights lawyer—the children’s understanding of fame remains limited. Clooney shared a lighthearted moment when his child asked,
“‘Papa what’s ‘famous?’ Somebody in my class said you’re famous.’ I said, ‘Tell that kid I’m very famous.’”
This exchange highlights how the twins are gradually grasping their parents’ public recognition.
Selective Viewing and Protecting Childhood
Clooney revealed that although his children have seen some of his work, they have only watched the animated film Fantastic Mr. Fox so far. He humorously added,
“I won’t let them see Batman & Robin, I want them to have respect for me.”
Regarding his other films, Clooney feels his children remain “still a little young” to view them, indicating his desire to preserve their childhood innocence away from the complexities of his Hollywood career.

Keeping the Twins Away from Public Spotlight
Both George and Amal Clooney have made conscious decisions to shield Alexander and Ella from the public eye. Amal explained their approach to protecting their family during a July 3 interview with Glamour:
“We do the best we can to minimize any impact on our children. We don’t put our children out there, we’ve never put their photo out there or anything like that.”
She also reflected on the challenges of maintaining privacy in the spotlight, saying,
“I would say becoming a parent means you’re more troubled by some of the intrusions.”
This sentiment underscores their commitment to shielding their children from the pressures that come with celebrity life.
Mutual Support Strengthens Their Family
Despite the challenges, the Clooney household remains a source of joy for both parents. Amal shared her gratitude for the support from her husband, stating,
“I feel so incredibly lucky to share every day with him. And now we’re four. And I don’t take any of it for granted. I treasure the laughter and the joy that I get from just being with them.”
George echoed this admiration during an interview on June 8, calling Amal
“the bravest human being I’ve ever met in my life.”
He added,
“I have this incredible partner who I couldn’t be more proud of. She’s the bravest human being I’ve ever met in my life. I am deeply proud of her and the fact that she’s in any way proud of me…I can’t believe how lucky I am.”
Looking Ahead to the Future of the Clooney Twins
As George Clooney’s children continue to grow, their future remains an open question. The actor and human rights lawyer couple prioritize allowing Alexander and Ella to choose their own paths without pressure. Their protective approach ensures that the twins can develop outside of the glare of fame, giving them space to explore interests free from public expectation.
With their parents standing firmly by their side, Alexander and Ella’s futures will unfold according to their own desires, making George Clooney kids future a topic of curiosity but, for now, free from certainty.
