A new poster has surfaced for Guillermo del Toro Frankenstein, offering the most vivid glimpse yet of Jacob Elordi’s creature transformation. Alongside the reveal, it was confirmed that a new trailer for the film will debut tomorrow, building anticipation for the upcoming release.
The poster showcases Elordi’s monstrous character towering with greasy, unkempt hair, draped in a heavy fur coat. The unsettling details stand out: his face is a patchwork of decayed flesh, stitched together unevenly, while one hand is completely skinned, revealing raw tendons beneath. This image departs from the traditional Frankenstein’s Monster look, presenting a version that feels disturbingly realistic.
Del Toro’s Vision: A Beautiful Yet Disturbing Creation
Guillermo del Toro described his Monster as
“staggeringly beautiful, in an otherworldly way,”
emphasizing its appearance as akin to “a newborn, alabaster creature.” He highlighted the aesthetic of the scars, noting that
“the scars are beautiful and almost aerodynamic,”
signaling a meticulous and artistic approach to the creature’s design.
Because the Monster is fashioned from several corpses, its skin tone varies, holding a “pale but almost translucent” quality that del Toro says “feels like a newborn soul.” Contrary to expectations of horror, the director explained that the creature’s design isn’t intended to simply frighten audiences. As he remarked,
“Victor is as much an artist as he is a surgeon, and if he’s been dreaming about this creature for all his life, he’s going to nail it.”
Del Toro also pointed out what he wanted to avoid:
“What he didn’t want was the feeling that you were seeing an accident victim that has been patched [together].”
Yet, the unsettling reality of the poster’s imagery may blur that line for many viewers.
Plot Overview and Expansive Ensemble Cast
The story centers on Christoph Waltz playing Dr. Pretorious, a driven scientist searching for Frankenstein’s Monster, who supposedly died in a fire 40 years earlier. Pretorious’s goal is to carry on the controversial experiments of Oscar Isaac’s Dr. Victor Frankenstein, delving into lifesaving yet forbidden scientific frontiers.
The film also stars Mia Goth, Felix Kammerer, Christian Convery, Lars Mikkelsen, David Bradley, Charles Dance, and Ralph Ineson, forming a diverse and experienced cast supporting this intense narrative.
