Netflix has released the full trailer for Guillermo del Toro Frankenstein, focusing now on the Creature, portrayed by Jacob Elordi. The film will debut in select theaters on October 17, 2025, before becoming available worldwide on Netflix on November 7, 2025.
A Closer Focus on the Creature’s Perspective
While the initial teaser centered on Oscar Isaac’s portrayal of Victor Frankenstein, this latest trailer tells the story through the Creature’s eyes. Over visuals of a lightning-struck tower, Elordi’s character whispers, “My maker told his tale,” followed by,
“And I will tell you mine.”
Rather than a typical monstrous figure, del Toro presents the Creature as a tragic and more refined presence. According to del Toro,
“He needs to feel like a baby, and then he needs to feel like a philosopher, like a man,”
reflecting a complex depiction of innocence and contemplation.
The Creature’s Origin Tied to War
This adaptation draws the Creature’s origin from wartime, specifically the Crimean War. Del Toro describes him as
“a resurrected soldier out of a mass grave.”
The trailer depicts the Creature haunted by his past lives, moving through scenes of battle and chaos, including a dramatic sequence aboard a grounded ship. The Creature’s emotional turmoil is voiced powerfully as he declares,
“If you are not to award me love, then I will indulge in rage.”
Jacob Elordi’s Unique Acting Influences
Elordi shared that his performance was inspired by unexpected sources, combining the Japanese dance style butoh with the gentle movements of his golden retriever.
“There’s a real innocence in the way she moves and the way that she loves,”
he said, emphasizing the contrast between vulnerability and the Creature’s immense strength and fury. This approach resonates with del Toro’s signature style of portraying monsters as both frightening and deeply human.
The Ensemble Cast
In addition to Elordi and Isaac, the movie features performances from Mia Goth, Felix Kammerer, Charles Dance, and Christoph Waltz. The cast brings to life del Toro’s vision of Mary Shelley’s novel with a fresh adaptation.
