During an appearance on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert on October 1, Julia Roberts shared insights into her family life, revealing how fulfilling it is now that her children are grown and living independently. The actress, 57, discussed how parenting her twins Hazel and Phinnaeus, 20, along with her son Henry, 18, with husband Danny Moder, 56, has been a rewarding experience.
Roberts described her connection with her children as deeply enjoyable and meaningful, emphasizing the strength of their bond despite the emptiness their growing independence sometimes brings.
It’s all fun. Honestly it is all so delicious and my kids… I know everyone thinks their kids are great … well. I think my kids are great,
she said.
I just love hanging out with them and spending time with them and fortunately we have had lots of visits along the way of this emptiness.
A Special Outfit That Links Past and Present Family Moments
On the same occasion, Roberts wore a suit that honored a memorable look from the 1990s Golden Globes, one that holds sentimental value for her family. Speaking to Extra on September 30, she revealed not only does she still own the iconic Armani suit, but her son Henry had recently worn it as well.
The actress shared how she initially tried on clothes in the women’s section before discovering the standout suit in the men’s department, which became one of her most iconic red carpet outfits.

And I went upstairs to the men’s department. I remember I put the suit on and I loved it,
Roberts recalled.
I was very taken with myself.
Marriage and Family Life with Danny Moder
Roberts married cinematographer Danny Moder in 2002 at their ranch in Taos, New Mexico, after meeting on the set of the 2000 film The Mexican two years earlier. The couple has built a private and loving family life, something Roberts spoke about in 2022 during an interview with CBS Mornings.
The life that I’ve built with my husband, the life that we’ve built with our children [is a dream come true],
she remarked.
And that’s the best stuff, to come home at the end of the day triumphantly to them.
Parenting Principles and Creating Stability for Her Children
Though Roberts and Moder keep much of their family life private, the actress opened up in a September interview with 72 Magazine about their parenting approach, describing themselves as somewhat strict compared to their children’s peers. She explained the consistent boundaries they established to create a secure and stable environment.
I think they were, for sure, some of the last kids in their peer groups to get phones and stuff like that. When they were younger, certainly, Danny and I would have been considered some of the stricter parents,
Roberts said.
Not like we’re laying down the law, but these are the rules and they don’t change. Here’s the boundary of your life and it does not shift. You know, you don’t ask me and get an answer and then go ask dad and get a different answer. That doesn’t happen. It will never happen.
She added how this consistency fosters a foundation of unconditional love and safety for their children.
I think that is what creates the stability that then allows them to feel secure because you know there is this fixed world of love and safety that exists unconditionally.
The Enduring Joy of Family for Julia Roberts
Julia Roberts’ reflections highlight the rewarding nature of her family life as her children reach adulthood. Her dedication to creating a loving, stable, and joyful home with Danny Moder is a source of great personal fulfillment. With her children stepping into their own lives, Roberts continues to treasure the moments she shares with them, showing how strong family bonds endure and evolve. This perspective reinforces the importance of grounded parenting and long-lasting connections within a family.
