This December, Quentin Tarantino’s vision for Kill Bill will be fully realized when Lionsgate releases Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair in theaters nationwide. This four-hour presentation, combining the two original films into one continuous story, offers audiences a chance to experience the epic revenge saga as Tarantino first intended.
The film blends the 2003 Kill Bill: Vol. 1 and 2004’s Vol. 2 into a seamless, unrated narrative. Alongside the existing footage, viewers will see a new 7.5-minute animated sequence not featured in the initial theatrical runs. Lionsgate is providing select cinemas with prints on both 70mm and 35mm film formats to enhance the viewing experience.
Creative Vision and Unique Presentation Elements
The director expressed satisfaction with finally presenting the film as one full-length feature.
“I wrote and directed it as one movie—and I’m so glad to give the fans the chance to see it as one movie,”
Tarantino said. He emphasized the impact of viewing the movie in a traditional format:
“The best way to see ‘Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair’ is at a movie theater in Glorious 70mm or 35mm. Blood and guts on a big screen in all its glory!”
The re-release also includes a classic intermission, maintaining the theatrical feel of an extended epic. Lionsgate summarized the film’s premise: Uma Thurman stars as The Bride, a woman left for dead after her former lover and boss, Bill, attacks her on her wedding rehearsal, shooting her in the head and stealing her unborn child. To take revenge, she must eliminate the remaining members of the Deadly Viper Assassination Squad before facing Bill.
Star-Studded Cast and Production Details
Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair features an ensemble cast including Uma Thurman, Lucy Liu, Vivica A. Fox, Michael Madsen, Daryl Hannah, Gordon Liu, Michael Parks, and David Carradine. Quentin Tarantino both wrote and directed the film, with Lawrence Bender serving as producer.
Anticipation for Tarantino’s Future Projects
While fans eagerly await Tarantino’s tenth and purportedly final feature film, the release of this extended cut provides a welcome cinematic event. This past summer, Tarantino announced plans to develop a stage play in London’s West End as he continues work on his next movie.
Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair will open in theaters on December 5, with further details and a trailer expected before the release date.
