The Wall Street Journal reports that the budget for Fast 11 is a major sticking point for Universal Pictures, which aims to cap spending at $200 million, despite the script’s requirement for $250 million. The high costs stem largely from the extensive ensemble cast and the need to shoot in multiple international locations. Universal is reportedly pushing to reduce the number of filming sites and scale down the cast to manage expenses. This poses a challenge since Fast 11 is expected to feature returning stars such as Dwayne Johnson and Gal Gadot, alongside Vin Diesel.

Vin Diesel’s Conditions and Studio Resistance

At the 2025 FuelFest event in Los Angeles, Vin Diesel revealed that he agreed to participate in Fast 11 only if certain conditions were met: a targeted April 2027 release date, a return to the street-racing roots in Los Angeles, and the return of Paul Walker’s character Brian O’Conner. According to HotCars and the WSJ report, Universal has not agreed to these demands, suggesting that Diesel’s announcement may have been intended to rally fan support rather than reflect studio commitment.
