Andrew Garfield Dodges Spider-Man Return Questions in MCU

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is approaching the conclusion of The Multiverse Saga, set to finish with Avengers: Secret Wars in 2027. Phase 6 of the MCU began in 2025 with The Fantastic Four: First Steps and is expected to be the shortest phase, featuring a limited number of films and series. Despite wrapping principal photography for Avengers: Doomsday in September 2025, production for the saga’s finale has yet to start, with directors Anthony and Joe Russo attached but no official filming dates confirmed.

Andrew Garfield Avoids Confirming Spider-Man Cameo in Avengers: Secret Wars

During a recent interview with MTV, Andrew Garfield, who famously portrayed Spider-Man in previous live-action adaptations, was asked about his potential involvement in Avengers: Secret Wars. When questioned about reprising his role, Garfield responded playfully but evasively.

[Laughs] See, what it is, is this a tell? Or what is it?,

he said, before adding,

You’ll find out! Whatever response I’m having, is it exasperation? Is it? I don’t know. You’ll find out.

The British actor’s answers kept his plans for the MCU timeline ambiguous, leaving fans curious about his future as the web-slinger.

Garfield Shares Marvel Characters He Would Like to Meet

When asked which characters he would want to interact with if crossing over within the MCU, Garfield expressed admiration for Hugh Jackman, who reprised Wolverine in 2024’s Deadpool & Wolverine. He also praised the Spider-Verse animated films, saying,

I really love the Spider-Verse movies. I love Lord and Miller. Just putting that out there.

Notably, Garfield’s Peter Parker appears in the Spider-Verse series through archival footage from The Amazing Spider-Man, connecting his iteration to the wider franchise.

Garfield also expressed interest in teaming up with Tom Hardy’s Venom, complimenting Hardy’s performance:

Tom Hardy is obviously a really formidable actor, and what he’s done with Venom is super fun. I’m up for a good time.

The Sony Spider-Man trilogy, featuring Hardy as Eddie Brock’s Venom, wrapped up in 2024 with Venom: The Last Dance, closing Hardy’s chapter after a cameo appearance in 2021’s Spider-Man: No Way Home. Garfield returned alongside Tobey Maguire for that film, which earned over $1.9 billion worldwide and became the highest-grossing entry in The Multiverse Saga.

Confirmed Cast and Future Prospects for Avengers: Secret Wars

Robert Downey Jr. is confirmed to appear as Doctor Doom alongside the key members of The Fantastic Four, including Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards/Mr. Fantastic, Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm/The Invisible Woman, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Ben Grimm/The Thing. Additional cast members will be revealed as the production progresses.

Avengers: Secret Wars is scheduled for release on December 17, 2027, and is anticipated to provide a dramatic climax to the current MCU storyline. Andrew Garfield’s potential involvement remains uncertain but highly anticipated by fans, as it could bring his Spider-Man back into the evolving multiverse narrative.
