Travis Kelce Mistakes Greta Gerwig in Hilarious Eras Tour Mix-Up

During one of Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour shows in London this past June, her fiancé, Travis Kelce, confused Greta Gerwig, Swift’s favorite director, with someone else while dancing in the VIP tent. This mix-up unfolded as Swift shared the story on Late Night With Seth Meyers, revealing how the NFL star mixed up Gerwig with actress Anna Eberstein, wife of Hugh Grant. The incident quickly became a humorous highlight from the concert experience.

Travis Kelce’s Excitement to Meet Greta Gerwig and the Resulting Blunder

Swift told Meyers that prior to the show, she gave Kelce a list of attending celebrities and mentioned that Greta Gerwig would be present. Kelce expressed eagerness to compliment Gerwig about the film Barbie.

“He was like, ‘Oh my God, I really want to tell her how funny I thought Barbie was,’”

Swift recalled.

“And I’m like, ‘You absolutely should. She’s the sweetest, giggliest person to tell that you like their work. You’re gonna love her.’”

However, Kelce ultimately approached Anna Eberstein by mistake and delivered a playful line:

“Well, I walked up to her and I was like, ‘I love Barbie. I’m just Ken, too.’ And then I pointed to you.”

Despite the mix-up, Eberstein was polite, smiled, but didn’t respond to the joke, which Swift found peculiar.

The VIP Tent Atmosphere and Celebrity Encounters

On the ride home, Swift and Kelce recapped the night’s events in the VIP tent.

“And [Kelce’s] like, ‘This was the most fun tent. Like, everybody was amazing. Like, Tom Cruise is going crazy. Liam [Hemsworth] is just as fun as Chris [Hemsworth], and Liam’s fiancée, Gabrielle, is so cool! And Ashton [Kutcher] was there and Mila [Kunis]!’”

Swift detailed.

“Oh my god, Hugh Grant was there, and I got to tell him how much I love his movies, and he was so cool! Everyone was amazing!”

Swift noticed Kelce did not mention Greta Gerwig initially. When asked if he met her, Kelce responded cautiously, saying,

“Yeah, um, I did. I think I told an annoying joke that she’s heard too many times.”

Confusion Between Greta Gerwig and Anna Eberstein Revealed

Swift’s curiosity led her to review VIP tent footage on her phone.

“I’m seeing all over the internet, it’s just videos of Travis dancing with Greta all night like they’re best friends,”

she said. Confronting Kelce with the video, Kelce admitted, “Oh that’s… that’s not Greta.” This revelation prompted Swift to ask,

“Is there any chance at all, baby, that you complimented Hugh Grant’s wife, Anna, on her movie Barbie, said ‘I’m just Ken too,’ and she politely nodded because she didn’t have the heart to tell you she didn’t direct it?”

She added,

“And is there any chance the people that look like soulmates are Hugh Grant and his soulmate?”

The Unexpected Soulmate Theory and Meyers’ Commentary

The evening grew even more amusing as Kelce recalled noticing how close Hugh Grant and Eberstein appeared that night, sharing inside jokes to the extent that he thought they were “soulmates.” Meyers humorously commented,

“The bad news for you is [Kelce] has face blindness,”

adding,

“And the good news is he can recognize true love! So at least he saw soulmates!”

The mix-up highlights how easily celebrity encounters can lead to funny misunderstandings, especially in lively VIP settings where multiple familiar faces gather. For Kelce, the evening was memorable not only for the star-studded atmosphere but also for the case of mistaken identity involving one of Swift’s favorite directors.
