The creator of Peacemaker, James Gunn, revealed his intention to feature a Deadpool cameo in the season 2 finale titled Full Nelson, set within Peacemaker’s Quantum Unfolding Chamber, which allows access to infinite alternate dimensions. During a press conference, Gunn explained that he wanted to connect DC’s universe with Marvel, his former employer, by having Deadpool appear through one of the chamber’s doors.
Gunn shared that he discussed the cameo idea with Ryan Reynolds, the actor behind Deadpool, but encountered significant legal and logistical challenges that prevented the crossover from happening.
“I wanted them to open the door and see Deadpool in a room,”
Gunn said.
“And I talked to Ryan Reynolds about it. But I think we would’ve had to go through some pretty big hoops to do that.”
He also confessed that revealing this plan sparked intense speculation:
“He wanted to do it! That’s all anybody’s going to talk about now, is f—ing Deadpool in the other room. I should have never said it.”
A Surprise Cameo from The Bachelor’s Jared Haibon
Although the Deadpool cameo was not possible, Gunn introduced a different surprise guest in the finale. Jared Haibon, known from The Bachelor, appears as one of the A.R.G.U.S. agents monitoring field operations in the Quantum Unfolding Chamber scene. Gunn explained the connection:
“Yeah, Jared’s a guy I know. So my friend Elan Gale ran The Bachelor for years, and I knew Jared through him. He is a huge Superman fan, and so when we were shooting, he came down and appeared in the scene.”
Gunn also mentioned an improvised moment involving Haibon drinking cocaine on screen:
“But that whole thing with the cocaine was improv. I didn’t tell him he was going to be doing cocaine.”
In the finale, Jared Haibon’s character is stationed safely in the A.R.G.U.S. office while the field agents explore hazardous alternate worlds. During a lighter moment, he shares a scene snorting cocaine with former LuthorCorp scientist Sydney Happersen, played by Stephen Blackehart, contrasting sharply with the dangers faced by those venturing into other dimensions.

The Finale’s Stakes and Cliffhanger Ending
The central mission of the season revolves around Rick Flag Sr. (portrayed by Frank Grillo) searching for a suitable prison planet to imprison metahumans like Peacemaker, played by John Cena. This storyline draws inspiration from the Salvation Run comics, which explored sending villains and metahumans away to a dangerous exile world.
The season culminates in Peacemaker becoming stranded alone on the harsh and deadly planet named Salvation by Flag. The cliffhanger ending sets up tension for future episodes, as Peacemaker confronts an uncertain fate on this unforgiving world. As Gunn wryly notes,
“He probably should have named the new prison world Damnation instead.”
The Significance of Gunn’s Creative Vision and Future Possibilities
James Gunn’s effort to connect DC and Marvel through a cameo highlights his interest in pushing boundaries between competing comic book universes, though rights and corporate hurdles remain a barrier. While the Deadpool appearance remains unrealized, Gunn’s ability to incorporate unexpected cameos like Jared Haibon shows his flair for blending pop culture references into Peacemaker’s expanding narrative.
The season finale raises the stakes for Peacemaker’s journey, posing questions about the survival of metahumans and the consequences of exile worlds. Fans can anticipate how these story threads will evolve as the series continues to explore the multifaceted multiverse and its complex characters.
