Lee Pace Joins Invincible Season 4 as Villainous Thragg

Amazon Prime Video revealed during the New York Comic Con panel that the fourth season of Invincible will debut next March, accompanied by the release of its first teaser trailer. This new season will prominently feature Lee Pace as Thragg, introducing a significant new antagonist for the series.

While the teaser primarily shows Atom Eve and Mark Grayson in the remains of the Burger Mart booth, discussing the previous season’s events and hinting at future developments, it does not include actual scenes from the upcoming episodes. The focus remains on building anticipation for what lies ahead in the storyline.

The Rising Threat: From Conquest to Thragg

The previous season ended with Mark Grayson narrowly escaping death at the hands of Conquest, a brutal adversary even by Viltrumite standards. Now, fans can expect the stakes to rise further as Mark faces the daunting Grand Regent Thragg in season four. Thragg is widely regarded as one of the universe’s most powerful and dangerous characters in Invincible.

Creator Robert Kirkman had confirmed Thragg’s casting earlier, and it has now been announced that Lee Pace, known for his roles in Guardians of the Galaxy and Foundation, will voice the formidable villain.

“Oddly enough, I’ve had Lee in mind for this role almost before the show existed,”

Robert Kirkman tells Entertainment Weekly.

“To be completely honest, when he was cast in Foundation, I was also like, ‘Is this [too] close? Am I gonna be able to cast him as Thragg if he’s available? Is this gonna work?’”

Lee Pace on Bringing Thragg to Life

Lee Pace shared his excitement about portraying Thragg, emphasizing the character’s powerful presence and complex nature. He expressed enthusiasm for the role, noting that it offers him a new challenge compared to his previous work.

“Let me just start with that he looks cool as hell! The character looks so badass,”

Pace remarked.

“As I was learning more about the story we were setting up, what I saw was a character with a lot of depth and a lot of different extremes. He goes through a lot. I don’t want to say too much about that because we’re just at the beginning of it, but I’ve also never done anything like this before. I’ve never done a voice-to-character like this.”

The actor further explained how he has grown into the role over time, drawing inspiration not only from the comics but also from the fans’ passionate engagement with the character.

“I do feel like I’m playing the character like I know him now,”

Pace continued.

“We’ve recorded enough and I’ve researched him enough, thought about him when I’m going on my runs and been inspired by the comic books, but also the fans’ engagement with the character. It all kind of goes in the machine, in a way.”

Additional Cast and Series Developments

Alongside Lee Pace, Matthew Rhys, known for his work on The Americans and Perry Mason, has joined the voice cast for the fourth season. However, details about Rhys’ character have not yet been disclosed. The show has also secured renewal for a fifth season, indicating continued story expansion and ongoing fan interest.

Implications for the Invincible Universe

Introducing Lee Pace as Thragg elevates the intensity of the series, promising a fresh wave of dramatic conflict for Mark Grayson and the other characters. With the Grand Regent’s arrival, the narrative scope and emotional stakes are set to deepen significantly. Fans can anticipate a season filled with complex battles, character growth, and surprises, further solidifying Invincible as a prominent animated series on Amazon Prime Video.
