Netflix has unveiled a new series of character posters for Guillermo del Toro Frankenstein, providing fans with an intimate glimpse of the film’s somber and tragic figures. These visuals arrive shortly after the movie’s second trailer, which highlighted Jacob Elordi’s chilling performance as The Creature.
Meet the Principal Cast Bringing the Gothic Tale to Life
The posters feature the primary actors, including Oscar Isaac as the determined scientist Victor Frankenstein, Mia Goth portraying Elizabeth Harlander, Felix Kammerer as Victor’s brother William, and Christoph Waltz in the role of Heinrich Harlander. These characters play pivotal roles in the emotionally charged narrative, intensifying the story’s dark themes.
Del Toro Shares the Emotional Core Behind This Adaptation
In a recent discussion with Variety, Guillermo del Toro revealed the deeper motivations fueling this film.
To me, [the message] is to reconnect emotionally to the idea of the power of forgiveness and acceptance — which is absolutely … a very scarce material right now,
del Toro stated.
He also emphasized that this is not a typical blockbuster or franchise endeavor but rather a personal story.
It’s not a blockbuster — a preconceived notion. It’s not a franchise. It’s something that it speaks very directly and autobiographically, unfortunately to me and many in the past.
Del Toro’s connection to Frankenstein stretches back decades.
This film concludes a quest that started at age 7, when I saw James Whale’s Frankenstein films for the first time. I felt the jolt of recognition in that seminal moment: Gothic horror became my church, and Boris Karloff my Messiah.
The Story’s Dark Exploration of Creation and Loneliness
The narrative follows Victor Frankenstein, a brilliant scientist whose pride and obsession drive him to conquer death by creating life. His creation, however, becomes a source of pain and isolation, trapping both creator and creature in a tragic cycle defined by destruction and a desperate longing for acceptance.
